A fantastic place to go with all your friends and family and soak up all what nature has been taking care of whilst everywhere was in lockdown.
When entering the gardens you will be in awe of what’s on offer from the majestic Lilly pad filled lake as soon as you walk out from paying your entrance fee.
There is an open air and undercover Cafe and eating facility to the right of the entrance which has spacious seating which is in line with the Social Distancing Regulations - it was well thought out which gave us peace of mind that the COVID situation was being taken seriously.
You can get all Teas, coffees, soft drinks and there was a good selection of ice cream and lolly iced as well as other snacks - hot food even is available but mainly during the day at certain times.
Remember take blankets if you want to eat your own picnic on the large lawned areas throughout the facility.
The lake is a massive - It’s a funtastic attraction for everyone - it’s full of hungry fish like thousands of them. They go into a frenzy when you feed them - the fish food you have to buy which is for sale when you enter but don’t worry there are plenty of feeding stations about the gardens to buy more of you run out - they are about a £1/£1.20 per /tub - on a safety note the fish don’t bite either as they don’t have no teeth, a bit like the most of the senior visitors that walked past us ha ha - be careful your little ones don’t fall in!!
Toilets are available throughout and are disability friendly too, just look for the easy to follow one way path system designed for minimising contact with other visitors and complying with the Government SD compliance.
Parking 🚘 is totally free which is even better and plenty of it as well. Entrance fees vary but a family of 4 is about £20/£24...
The gift shop as well! We bought a nice tractor 🚜 and a child’s 1st garden spade and fork set all for just £9!!.
When you’ve had enough don’t forget leave the car where it is and totter off to the local village it’s only about 5 minutes away from the exit to the right, there’s lots of little shops there and the ice cream parlour on the corner of the Main Street is worth a lick 👅 too.
Opposite the car park there is a large Supermarket to grab those last minute tea time ingredients. Just saying as there isn’t a lot of places open still due to lockdown.
Anyway when were are up that way again it’s getting another visit.
You’ll come out feeling it was money well spent and you will have got the kids tired out at the same time - it was silent all the way home for us - so it’s definitely was a win win for...
Read moreA very peaceful garden with amongst other things a rockery garden, Stumpery with cute little Hobbit house, 2 small lakes and plenty of flowers and shrubs for gardeners and nature lovers alike. We visited during the annual tulip festival so the garden was awash with colour. There were plenty of benches to rest and take in the lovely surroundings. There were also notice boards dotted about the garden explaining points of interest. The on-site toilets were simple but clean and the cafe had a varied menu, if a tad expensive. There was a short wait for a table outdoors with a longer wait for an indoors table. The outdoor seating overlooked one of the lakes. There were also picnic tables should you wish to take your own picnic. The cafe had a children’s menu and there was a small children’s play area. Fish food was available to buy at the entrance and had I visited with my 7 year old daughter I’m confident she would have enjoyed feeding the fish, exploring all the paths and looking at the plants and flowers. I have removed a star for the inadequate parking facilities. The car park is narrow with bays not clearly marked out. Consequently, cars were not always parked well and as it was busy the car park was quite chaotic. We managed to find a space but only because we have a small car. Many cars were unable to park. Driving through Pocklington on our way home it became clear that there are a few free car parks nearby but there was no information at the gardens to tell you this. Clearly defined bays would be beneficial and either an overflow car park or details of alternative car...
Read moreReally beautiful place to visit. We spent a couple of hours here on a not so warm January afternoon. Still enjoyed the experience. Wonderful walk around the gardens, the lake, The Stumpery and rock garden. So well maintained. Lilies just starting to poke through the surface of the waters. Dovecote in full use by the doves/pigeons. Snowdrops putting in an appearance and little babbling brooks babbling through the rock garden. Aviary busy with its occupants. The Stumpery was a magical little interlude. All in all our garden walk was wonderful. We called into the on site café. Very extensive menu with good drinks available. We drank lattes. The carrot cake was good but my husband's flat iron steak panini unfortunately was literally as tough as shoe leather! That was the only negative if our visit. Provided me with a few chuckles as he wouldn't be beaten and did manage to tear his way through it. There are plenty of benches to relax on during your walk at various points in the gardens. Very good (free) parking,. On site toilet and baby changing facilities. £3 each entry fee via the little visitors centre, which is very good value considering there's no time limit and the lovely walk and gardens. All in all a few special hours spent for a short drive from Hull to...
