Been to Escape Dungeons today. Here’s our experience, make your own minds up on whether it’s worth 60quid 🤔 The room wasn’t set up properly (a lock had been left unlocked) so we were able to get into a chest immediately that we shouldn’t have been able to. They noticed on the cctv and came and told us it should be locked. By this point we had already seen in the chest, it’s contents, and the code. There are safety warning stickers all over the dungeon on small hand written notes. I asked to check which ones were actual safety warnings and which might be part of the puzzle (I don’t think there should be doubt about this) and pointed at each one I noticed and the host confirmed that was real. I didn’t notice, and she didn’t point out one on a fuse box. One of the answers to the clues is ‘fuse’ so I went straight to open the fuse box. Nathan stopped me saying you can’t open a fuse box, it was a really fuse box and shouldn’t be opened. Having so many safety warnings makes you really nervous to explore the items in the room! The phone broke in half in our hands which we assumed it was meant to do as no force was applied. We then tried to get out what was inside only for the host to appear and ask us to please not break her phone. Additionally, the host kept appearing and giving clues. I asked her to please leave us to it (as that’s the whole point of and escape room right?). She’s since told me that she’s never let anyone not escape since it’s opened. For some people this is probably a good thing, for me it totally ruined the whole experience (on top of the lock being open, numerous safety warnings in the room and broken equipment of course!) I asked for a partial refund, they...
Read moreI would definitely rate higher if the price was considerably lower. If you haven’t been to an escape room before, this is a good place to start. If you have ever been to a professional escape room company, probably give this a miss. You are in one room (think 5 by 7 feet) for the entire game and the puzzles are very simple locks that you complete in sequence. For comparison, other escape rooms (such as exciting escapes and houdinis) have multiple large themed rooms, costumes, detailed props, secret tunnels and entrances, magnetic hidden doors, laser mazes, ect. Understandably, this small venue cannot achieve this, however they therefore should not be charging anywhere the same price.
Our host was lovely and hugely accommodating (although we didn’t need her during the room as solved everything in 45 minutes - although would have been 30 had we not been overthinking everything), however we didn’t feel like the story came through, if i hadn’t had read the (rather exciting) description on the website i wouldn’t have really known what was happening. It’s important to note that i do not think this was her fault at all, but rather the way the experience is set to be.
Overall, its a great idea to use the cellars of your existing business to jump on a great trend and make some extra easy cash, and the staff are good at delivering the content they are given to work with. However, the price is just far too high when the standard of the competition is simply...
Read moreI wanted to like this but it's probably the worst escape room we've done. It took us a little over half an hour (most are designed to be an hour), and most of that time was taken up by a singular repetitive puzzle that was more annoying than fun. It doesn't feel like the room is designed to be an hour long and takes places in an singular extremely cramped, uncomfortable underground room. The host was excellent and friendly- no issue there.
One of our players couldn't make it due to a last minute health issue, but we were told that it wasn't possible to get a refund on their ticket. They did give us money to spend in their bar/grill so it wasn't a complete waste but the operation feels a bit like a cash grab when you put all this together: A room that's way shorter than average with the same price tag, no proper refunds and trying to make you spend money at their bar instead. Not impressed.
To improve they need to make the puzzles more interesting and less focus on them just taking up time. They need a bigger space, (there was just 2 of us in there and it felt too small) and they need a more consumer friendly refund policy.
I'd avoid this one, give your money to some local businesses who value you...
