Lovely to have such a natural area open to the public. Some of the pathways are a bit overgrown. Sadly lots of litter and graffiti on seating areas. Lots of parking. ( pay to park). Now to the cafe….. I took my elderly mum in for a coffee and a cake. The server was unbelievably rude. Muttering under her breath. Every thing we asked for she tutted and eye rolled and told us it wasn’t available. Now to the rude bit. My mum is 88 years young. She is sprightly and alert. She is a little hard of hearing. This server asked my mum, “do you want a big plate or a small plate for your scone”? Before my mum could answer she said “oh just have a big plate” and banged it on the counter. The server then shouted “do you want just butter or butter and jam”? My mum started to answer and the server talked over her, “of course you do don’t you” she turned her back in my mum and slammed the fridge door after getting out the butter. She tutted and sighed and rolled her eyes when my mum paid with cash and took 5 seconds to get hold of a 20p coin. She shoved the tray towards us and turned her back. I was so taken aback. I wanted to have this out with the server but my mum was distressed and didn’t want a scene. RSPB this is not okay. To treat an elderly lady in such a rude and abrupt manner is absolutely not okay. How very sad, disrespectful and unnecessary. I do not recommend this...
Read moreLast I have rated this as a 4 star, for me, something has to be exceptional to be 5. This is a beautiful Location close to a very convenient large car park, charges apply. A nature reserve tea shop furnished with cakes and a drink for refreshment. A great shelter if the weather's somewhat inclement with a good viewing window. There are a couple of a couple of hides which can be found on the reserve. Not being bird watches particularly, but lovely particularly but lovely to see various birds in their wild habitat. There is a circular walk around the reserve, probably allow there an hour for a stroll around the reserve. Note, if travelling any greater distance there is a beach and a Harbour which are both interesting and worth a walk around. Another reserve is a relatively short distance away short distance...
Read moreAn island of peace in a busy world, this reserve is home to many species of birds and other wildlife. It is free to enter, apart from the council car parking fee, and is suitable for all ages and abilities. Dogs on leads are now allowed in certain areas. The paths are gravel but so well- trodden they are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. They are mostly enclosed by hedges and wildflowers, but there are viewing points over the lakes. The sound of birdsong is ever present. A little slice of heaven, which even has its own small cafe and where friendly and knowledgeable volunteers help you to get the most from your visit. There is disabled car parking and toilets. ...
