I booked this restaurant 6 weeks ago for my birthday it isn’t the first time I have been. I really enjoyed the previous meals there. But today we arrived the restaurant had no condiments except mint sauce or ketchup!!! I had ordered the bread which should be served with balsamic vinegar virgin olive oil and butter! There was no vinegar very little oil and the smallest bit of garlic butter. The bread was 2 half pieces that you would probably of expected with your normal starter and they had the cheek to charge £7 for this !!! What a joke. I ordered and so did my partner fillet steak medium rare which came with rocket and fries and I also ordered a side salad when it arrived it my steak looked like Chuck steak and I couldn’t even cut it with the steak knife. It was cooked to well done and it tasted like boot leather. I called the Waitress over and explained the steak was inedible and was over cooked!! They took my meal away and then a few minutes later the waitress asked me what I wanted to do? I said I would like a new one cooked as requested. She said fine and it would take about 10 minutes and offered to keep my partners warm but as we explained you cannot keep a steak warm without overcooking it. So he decided to keep his but a few minutes later he nearly chocked on a 6” piece of plastic which was in his steak!! They took the plastic away and apologise! After waiting 25 minutes and many other steaks being delivered to other tables who actually had been in the restaurant at least an hour less than me I cancelled my meal! Absolutely appalling!! The manager did not come over and apologise once. They did not charge for my partners steak but the night was completely ruined and It was supposed to be a special evening for my birthday which was completely ruined. The bill was £48 for a very expensive 2 half pieces of bread and a B little wine which we did not even finish. I would certainly never recommend this restaurant again!! I must add that the waitress was very professional and it certainly was not her fault but the management is...
Read moreSo we had been here before last year, which was 10/10 no complaints, everything perfect. However our most recent meal, on the day this review was written, has demoted our opinion on Olivieto, to another "what a shame they ruined it".
On checking in at our time, our waitress appeared to have some sort of panic, dismissing two other colleagues, muttering under her breath while she jittered around for some reason. This put us on edge, and I couldn't think of any time I've had such an awkward exchange being sat at a table.
I had booked our table a month in advance, asking for a table next to the window overlooking the sea for a date on a Tuesday night at 8pm. I didn't think that could be mismanaged, but it was. We were sat halfway down the room, and only one of us able to view out the window. The restaurant had the perfect table free, but I suppose the couple that booked that reserved it a month and a day in advance.
After some deliberation , Waitress Two took our orders. I asked for the specials, and Waitress Two questioned who served us as we should be told them beforehand. I wish I knew the staff names, but none of the staff introduced themselves to us - very ironic of you Waitress Two.
We both ordered the mussels and seafood risotto. Two of my mussels were dead and unopened. They also had switched from a terrific garlic, white wine sauce to a rather disappointing tomato based sauce for the mussels.
The seafood risotto featured four mussels (the only shell on seafood in the main course). Also featuring were three frozen mini prawns, plenty shell-off mussels and a few odd squid rings. To this, they added a good table spoon of parmesan they keep in a cupboard in the corner, making the whole mixture Mac and cheese inspired with whatever bits are going off in your freezer right now. So we won't be returning until the previous chef/inspiration comes back, as our last visit had neither...
Read moreI rarely leave bad reviews, but my experience here was so disappointing I feel obliged to share. I visited Olivetti yesterday evening to celebrate with a group of friends, all of us golden girls. From the start, the service was off-putting. Our waiter adopted an insincere, almost patronising tone throughout the evening, as if he were doing us all a favour by serving us. The wine we ordered was delivered unopened and we had to wait until our waiter returned and ask him to open it for us. He did so and then left the bottle on the table without serving us. We had to serve ourselves. Further drinks orders were seemingly forgotten about and I had to remind another waitress of my order. Not what you’d expect from a restaurant assuming got any sort of standard. Immediately the food arrived, our waiter arrived to check if it was acceptable. As non of us had even lifted a fork to our mouths we were unable to comment. In my case, it wasn’t — my dish was so oversalted it was completely inedible. With no further service check, I had no chance to mention it without actively chasing someone down, and making the evening unpleasant for my fellow diners. The state of the facilities was equally poor. The toilets were frankly unacceptable: the floor was wet and strewn with toilet paper, giving the impression of neglect and poor hygiene. By the end of the first course we had all had enough of the whole experience and left without ordering dessert or coffee to enjoy them elsewhere. In the current climate of harsh financial constraints on hospitality this restaurant can I’ll afford to lose customers. I feel that as most of their trade is tourists who will never return they are not bothering to offer the service or food quality advertised. We were all locals. Overall, the experience felt careless and unprofessional from start to finish. Certainly not somewhere I’d return, nor recommend to...
