This is the best Harry Potter shop experience around. I have done quite a few, inlcuding London but none come close to the authenticity of that shop. First you walk in a narrow street to access the door at the end of it. It already feels a little bit like diagon alley but the decorations make it even more so. You come in through a squicky door which would normally be annoying but it is so fitting in this case, it'd be sad to add WD40 to it. Then you step in the small building, small room, low ceiling, dark... oh man, you're in the mood straight away. Then you see that the products are different from the usual ones you can find in other Harry Potter shops, again, even the official ones in London. You can even find a quiddich board game that was made before the movies ever came out.
There is an additional small room at the back which you access through a narrow, dark corridor. I'm just re living it as I write this, it was so great. The 2 children I was with (10 & 13) had an absolute blast in there and it took them a looooong time to choose what to get.
One of them chose a wand (ÂŁ31 and that's the cheapest you'll find it). The clerk, who felt as authentic as the shop, played her role so bloody well. When my boy asked to see Neville's wand, she told him he could only see it and not touch it (you'll understand why in a minute). She very delicately got the box, opened it and showed it to my boy. He then asked to see Ron's but ended up choosing Neville's. Once we purchased the wand, the clerk explained that I may want to film the upcoming as she had a whole "rules" speech prepared for the delivery of the wand: You are the first one to touch the wand and you are receiving its magic within you... if you point the wand at your sister to turn her into a frog, the curse will backfire and you'll have spiders come out of your mouth ... and so on for a good 5minutes. My boy was soooooo amazed. The rest of the trip he asked me several times to make sure I write a review for the shop and it is with great pleasure that I do.
Honestly, if you are a Harry Potter fan, you HAVE TO stop by that shop. If you are tall, watch your head in there :)
PS: Prices also very very descent for most stuff. We found some of the same products later in Edinburgh on Victoria street but they were...
Read moreWe decided to make a trip to Mallaig especially to visit Haggard Alley, my daughter is a huge Harry Potter fan and was so excited to go to this shop. She was not disappointed!
The range of items is fantastic, she was so awe struck she could not decide what to buy as there was so much choice. The lady explained they had a website where they sold the same items so we could look their in our own time and pick items. So we bought a couple of small items as a souvenir and my daughter is eagerly waiting to look at the website properly after our holiday.
The shop presents merchandise very well from the usual fan items to the higher end collector items. Everywhere you look you spot something that draws you in and reminds you of parts of the books/movies.
Definitely recommend a visit for any...
Read moreStep straight into the wizard's shop at this enchanting wizarding emporium tucked behind Mallaig's harbor. The moment you push through the creaky oak door, the scent of polished wands and parchment envelopes you. Shelves overflow with authentic replicas - from Chocolate Frogs that really jump to Golden Snitches with fluttering wings.
They have all sorts of Harry Potter theme items, drinks and snacks. You may bump into speaking broomsticks and other enchanted objects alike. The lady working at the place is just charming and reminds of Professor McGonagall. She claims that only wizard's are able to find the entrance to this...
