My 6 year old autistic son has visited Oxygen in Derby with his respite carers or with our family on several occasions. He never wears socks and this has been discussed with staff and accepted as a reasonable adjustment. However, today a member of staff his carers hadn’t seen before marched over to them mid way through the session and asked them to remove him from the park. She said it was for “hygiene reasons” as he wasn’t wearing any socks, however his carers strongly felt she wanted him to leave on the basis that he was autistic. My son was really, really upset and after trying to reason with this disposable individual, they felt they had no option to leave.
I am NOT happy. The session cost me £25 plus £20 taxis there and back, just for my son to be treated like trash by someone who should have known better.
As I have said, normally the staff have been inclusive and there has never been any issue with my son not wearing socks as it is due to his disability. This member of staff treated him as if he was an unclean dog, who should not have been on the trampolines. Had I been there, I would have filmed the incident and posted it far and wide.
It really is a shame when companies like Oxygen allow one uneducated, ignorant member of staff to break the law by acting in unacceptable and discriminatory ways. I have initiated the complaints process and I am waiting for them to call me back about this incident. However, I am not willing to accept any excuses for this behaviour and I believe that member of staff should lose their job for having discriminated against a...
Read moreThe lessons were awful. Our children didn't learn anything during the whole course. The trainer's behaviour management was not good - our children would sometimes wonder out of the lesson area and start roaming around the facility. Luckily we were in the cafe and keeping an eye on them so would have to take them back to the lesson. We asked on numerous occasions for a list of what the lessons were going to cover, but the trainer failed to provide these and the Oxygen management didn't take any responsibility. Once we turned up to the lesson and the trainer called Oxygen 10 minutes after the lesson was supposed to start to say that he wasn't coming! We complained to the Oxygen management about the poor lessons and the manager was very dismissive about our concerns. The whole experience felt like a total money making venture rather than proper lessons. A total waste of money, very poor customer service from the manager and no offer of any kind of compensation for the fact that the children didn't learn anything. If you want your children to actually learn how to trampoline, do not...
Read moreMy 2 year old grandson really enjoyed this experience. He was a bit overwhelmed at first due to the size of the hall and didn't like wearing the special socks at first. Once he calmed down he had the best time. There are lots of rules in place, this is for the safety of the children and must be adhered to. We booked on line but I noticed people were coming in and just paying at the desk. Don't forget to book your parking on the screen at the reception desk, you get 2 hours free parking. The place is very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I liked that you didn't have to use coins for the locker, you set your own code. There is a cafe very close to where the trampoline area is. Only tiny gripe is that the children had to collect coloured squares during an activity. There weren't enough for every child so the result was some kiddies got a bit upset and felt left out. All in all it's worth going. My grandson ran himself ragged and had...
