This is a clean and presentable arcade, you can tell it has regular maintenance and is looked after, however I am not surprised with how it’s run. The staff here are not polite in the slightest, they grunt at you, ignore you and look at you like dirt when you ask for help like you’ve just caused the biggest inconvenience on their lives, even though that’s what they’re paid to do. Two of them one with tattoos and hair slicked back walking around like they’re door staff in a nightclub having inappropriate conversations with each other in front of kids. They also say they’re shutting in 10 minutes, over an hour before they’re due to close. The same people then say they’re shutting in 10 minutes, 20 minutes later. Why?? Stop it. My biggest gripe apart from the overpriced machines is the 2p machines. The prizes are terrible (cereal in one - what in the cost of living crisis?!) and they are constantly reset as soon as they spot someone leave - they also put the prizes right to the back of the machine which makes it virtually impossible to win anything! You are literally shattering children’s dreams to line your pockets! These places were the best thing ever for me growing up, I want my children to have that same excitement but how can they with greedy places like this. Last time we were there my daughter tried to win a £5 attached to a big stack of tickets. It took her £30 in 2p’s to win it! (Yes she was told off). We went back last week and they’ve now took it upon themselves to add RULES to say the prize has to be touching the glass on both sides. How in the hell are kids meant to win that now?!? Not only this but you have to spend a stupid amount to win prizes on the other machines. It’s a joke. Please support the smaller arcades on the promenade, Caesar’s was a half decent one we found but there are many others, where they actually give you a fighting chance of winning something and actually give your children excitement rather than anxiety because they’ve spent up and won nothing other than a 10p chew. This place could be so much better, focus on making children happy rather than maximising profits. If the smaller arcades can do...
Read moreVisited with family/young grandchildren during the Easter school holidays 2025, having been coming here for many, many years since a youngster living in the city with my parents. It's our local seaside resort after all. Arrived after 8 pm and enjoyed some family bowling. While in the amusement arcade after, the security guard came around asking people to leave/make it their last go, as shortly closing. It was 10 pm & the closing time on the doors was 11 pm. Grandkids hadn't been out long, as they had a sleep-in hotel room before going out a bit late. I questioned politely this with the security guard, & was taken aback when the short goateed bearded guard derided me for daring to question his authority. He claimed they were doing maintenance & didn't care much for what it said regarding closing times on the doors. He called the supervisor over, as requested & she explained that they were emptying the machines of cash & that we didn't need to leave yet. The guard stood there listening & I questioned the two contradictions for closing the arcade early, mentioning the security guard's aggressive, self importance attitude. No apology or reasoning given & left earlier than expected, back to our hotel room. Two/three generations of loyalty lost, through your disgraceful actions, Wellington pier! Never to return! Staff badly need customer service courses here, as that treatment...
Read moreWellington Pier is more than just an amusement arcade. This place is huge! There are of course the standard 2p machines and a clearly cordoned off slots section but there's so much more to see. A myriad of arcade games; racing, shooting and other more modern creative games involving fishing, stacking cubes and bubbles. Some of these can cost up to a pound to play so be prepared to spend a bit but I think it's worth it to get lost in the maze of sound of colour. There's also an ice hockey table and a basketball game for you sport fanatics, not to mention a very decent ten pin bowling game. What we really appreciated was the variable 2p machines though. And importantly the win rate seemed very decent. The real winner though are the tickets. As soon as your children realise there are tickets spooling out the machines the fun will begin. Collect the tickets; get a prize. And almost all the machines reward you with tickets so what starts as ten can reach 200 in no time. I'd recommend you set a budget or time limit otherwise expenses can spiral but if you're going to hit the amusement parks come here. You might spend a bit more but your children will love it here and might walk away...
