Was told The Crafty Scholar was cheap, however, if you buy a shipyard ale, you will be sorry. The ale cost over £4 and it was not even that great. I Wish Lancaster town centre would have a decent ale bar, Instead you got a crappy chain pub that sells third rate ale. I feel like someone should open an ale bar in Lancaster, it would be nice. Chorley has lots and those ale bars are great. Why doesn't this place be open and honest and just call themselves The Stonegate Company? People need to know that this is a chain pub and not a one of, that the jewel is not just for Lancaster, but there are many of these pubs across the country. I guess the Stonegate pub company does not sound as quirky as The Crafty Sholar, this name will make themselves seem cool, hip and hop.
Sorry for sounding arsey, I am sorry, I should not be writing this review, i am sorry again, its just that i am hungover and not in a good mood,. I am feeling like crap. I should not take my bad mood out on this pub, I am sure its a wonderful place that everyone in Lancaster adores and loves. The beating heart of Lancaster. A place full of smiles, happy memories and wonder that will inspire future generations. In the Year 6666 people will still be talking about how The Crafty Scholar made Lancaster as great as it is. Though not as great as Manchester say. I can not imagine Lancaster ever being as great a place to live than Manchester. I mean there is alot more to Manchester than Lancaster. Comparing Lancaster to Manchester, is like comparing HP Sauce to another brown sauce, sourced from your bathroom. Long live The Crafty Scholar, the best chain of the pubs in...
Read moreGreat double burger with an above decent amount of salad and bacon. Sadly the so-called chunky chips I was looking forward to ended up being just above barely cooked to look so, and so not sure where the word chunky comes into it. The toffee ice cream brownie I enjoyed was so scrumptious I was prepared to let the high price pass by. The other downer that day is that the staff could have sounded a bit more welcoming, or at least the two on duty that lunchtime. The young woman who served me looked really unenthusiastic - her expression serving a visible hint of 'couldn't you have gone somewhere else instead?', while the other chap just sat on one of the tables, more interested in his laptop that who was coming in or going out. Given I was one of just two parties of people in on that afternoon I thought that they would be grateful of any custom. Please don't get me wrong, they were certainly nowhere near Basil Fawlty levels of hostility but could perhaps appear as if they actually like customers instead of putting...
Read moreCrafty's can't be missed in Lancaster, that's for sure. However, I'd never recommend eating in here to anyone, it's totally and entirely a place for drinks and a dance on a night out. It's great for a function upstairs actually, but prime time at Crafty's is 100% on a Friday/Saturday night post 11pm. The drinks are decent, they're not too expensive, but the place itself tends to attract all types of people you wouldn't want hanging around yourself. I've personally witnessed all sorts of drunken activities, some foiled by the security, but not all. It's extremely rowdy, loud and obnoxious, but that's what's great about it to some extent. The student deals are okay, but the lack of actual vodka in your double vodka is a little suspicious. Nevertheless, we visit Crafty's most Friday nights, as it's the place to be in Lancaster! I did see that it's marked as LGBTQ friendly on it's Google Page. I can't dispute this, however, it's not somewhere I'd openly express on a Saturday night with some of the drunkenness...
