Of all the "older" shopping centres in Leeds city St. John remains the number one in my opinion. It still seems to attract new businesses as units come available, and retain the well known brands that have been there for some time.
There is a good mix of businesses from quality clothes retailers to pound world. Inside the Headrow entrance there is always a hive of activity with some retailers set up in the centre of the entrance all the way down to near ghd bottom of the escalators that take you to the upper level. You find Sky in this area with I think Virgin in one of the units. While the sky rep and other retailers do make an Approach to passers by it's usually from their sales position and not in anyway intimidating if you say no thanks they accept it, they won't follow you for an hour. Occasionally I have seen credit card companies such as Vanquis & capital one taking applications but they usually are a temporary visitor not permanent retailers.
On the upper level are similar well known brands and quite a large Post Office with half a dozen sales points for general sales of postal services, banking etc. The queue can be longish at times but does not take long to move. If you prefer as I do, there are 5 or 6 self service points where you can do all posting, pay bills with a barcode or a payment card. You can add any items available in the shop like envelopes, cards, packaging supplies etc you just scan into machine easily. Payment can be by cash or credit & debit card. If you are unsure how to do anything there is always a staff member that will help you or show you how to do something. It can save a lot of time if you just need to pay electric or gas or similar.
There is an exit that takes you to the to the street where buses stop for most areas of Leeds, or to the bus station if needed. There is a McDonald's at this entrance also but is very busy but does have the self order facility. There is another entrance that takes you out opposite the Merrion Centre.
You can access the car park on thus level. Word of advice especially On the weekend, the car park can be very busy and some people do queue to get in and it can extend to the street. If you approach the car park entrance and cars are lined up waiting you will probably be better off using a nearby car park, probably little or no difference in cost.
If you visit I hope you enjoy it and find all you want. I will post a few photos later in the week, so look...

Set over 2 levels, with only a small amount of stores, the St. John's centre is one of the busiest in Leeds, as it is situated between both the Merrion and Core shopping centres.
There are numerous eateries in and around the centre, including: a busy McDonald's, Subway, Taco Bell, a small kiosk style café, and a 'pound bakery'.
Though the overall variety of shops has somewhat dwindled over the years, there are still such high street names as: HMV, Body Care, and Poundland on-site.
Though there have been some attempts to modernise the interior of the site in the past, the building is starting to show its age. It lacks the modernity of the core (ex-headrow) and Trinity (ex-plaza) shopping centres. Both of which have received multi-million pound refurbishments/rebuilds within the last 8 years.
All-in-all, the Saint John's has turned in to the bargain centre, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But, in order to compete with other, more up-to-date facilities in Leeds, it needs to be brought properly in to the 21st century to attract more customers, and big name...

The location is not bad but need organising and decorating. What is more important is management of types of shops, such as giving discount on rent to attract similar shops gather to form a fashion culture. HMV is good and if forbidden planet is moved next to it, it will be excellent. Some 1 to 1 figure sculpture such as ironman for Instagram is also a selling point. Go to Merron center to rub one.😂
Mcdonald is an excellent restaurant and lots of fast food shop nearby. But if a floor of food court of small independence food stall at the upper floor? Just like ardnale market in Manchester. japanese street food, bubble tea, Mexican food in ardnale market, the Vietnamese food and turkish food in core shopping mall? Are...
