It's been several months since I wanted to try out this place. It has been one of the most disappointing experiences I've had in the eight years I lived in London.
We booked our brunch quite early, and despite the place being almost empty, it took the waiter around 20 minutes to come and take our order. After a few minutes, we were advised that the dish we wanted was not available. We changed our order to something else, which also wasn't available. We were told that there were no mushrooms left. Now, the place is located near a market and surrounded by supermarkets. I've worked in hospitality, and when we ran out of something, we would have someone from the staff go and get it, especially if it was at the beginning of the shift, not at the end of the working day.
Despite knowing the dishes were not available, the team didn't inform any of the customers when handing out the menu but only at the time of ordering. This is poor customer service.
Despite the place being almost empty, our dishes stayed underneath the 'kitchen lamp' for quite some time. The roasted potatoes were cold, and the watercress was wilted due to the lamp's heat. The bread was the worst bloomer bread I've ever had, and the dish was plain and tasteless with no dressing whatsoever.
Once we finished, no one came to clear the table or ask if we wanted anything else for a good half hour. This was despite having what was likely the manager next to us, who seemed more concerned with setting up a table for a possible 'well-known' guest than attending to the customers who were already there.
When we asked for the bill, even though the waiter acknowledged my request, he started chatting with people at the bar for at least 10 minutes. I had to ask another member of staff for the bill.
This is what happened to us, and looking around, it didn't seem to be getting better. The kitchen staff were looking for the waiters (who were all chatting at the coffee counter) as the dishes sat under the lamps for more than 5-6 minutes. There was even one pizza that wasn't under a lamp because there was no more space to keep it warm. Everything was just sitting there, and no one seemed to be really bothered. I wonder how a place like this copes when it's full. I will never...

Canova Hall in Brixton is one of the trendiest co-working spaces I’ve ever seen.
They feature a spacious dining area and bustling bar too where you can order Italian-inspired cuisines whilst you’re working. I also absolutely love the stylish industrial decor and the vibrant atmosphere the place has especially its contemporary design elements.
This brunch restaurant/co working space has strong wifi, tons of sockets and seatings you can choose from.
They also offer hot desk passes for a day, week or month for £10pp day / £25pp week / £50pp month which includes bottomless hot drinks all day during weekdays from 8am-5pm. You can also stay a bit later if your table is free. Your server will try and find you another space somewhere else if there is an evening reservation.
We were there from 8am to 5pm and we had the following: Red Smoothie Bowl - £9 Green Smoothie Bowl - £9 Tartufo Tagliatelle - £15 Spicy Ragu Tagliatelle - £14.5 Margherita - £12
All the food and drinks tasted amazing. You need to get that tartufo tagliatelle. Also I honestly I love that although the space looks bustling and busy, it was quiet enough to hold long online meetings and actual get productive work done so I definitely recommend to add this to your list.

Read moreThis is hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had, and I can't believe how disrespectful the staff were. From the moment we walked in, the service was appalling. We asked about seating, and when my grandmother jokingly mentioned it was “my birthday,” the manager’s rude response was, "So what? It's everyone's birthday around here." That should’ve been our first red flag, but we brushed it off, hoping for a better experience.
We waited over 25 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us, and when we were finally seated, we were placed at an uncomfortable high bar table, which was hardly ideal for children. Still, we tried to make the best of it. Then, when we asked for a starter to keep the kids occupied, the staff ignored our request and brought all the food out at once, leaving the kids hungry and irritable. The food was decent at best, but honestly nothing worth the wait, and the presentation was better than the actual taste.
The real frustration came when we asked for the bill. I had to beg three different staff members before they finally brought it over, and then, they charged us for an item we didn’t even order. After paying, I realized I’d dropped an envelope containing £600, so I went back to ask if anyone had seen it. The staff couldn’t care less. The server barely made any effort to check for it and made me wait 15 minutes while he went to ask the manager. When he came back, the manager didn’t even acknowledge me or offer any help—just told me to file a police report. In Brixton, good luck with that.
This experience left me feeling completely disrespected and upset. The staff treated us horribly, the service was slow and unprofessional, and they didn’t care about anything but getting the next customer in. I will never return to this place, and I strongly urge others to avoid it. The whole experience ruined what should’ve been a special night, and no amount of theatrics or overpriced food can make up for the lack of basic courtesy. Avoid this place...
