On every level this largest independently owned Multiplex Cinema in the UK is ticking all my boxes!
Anyway back to 1917 - Within 30 seconds I just knew this was going to be something special - all the Oscars & Baftas etc that Sam Menes will carry home are so deserved, and to cast two guys in the lead role who are not the usual A List Hollywood was inspired.
So many are convinced this was just one shot without a cut, well as Sam admitted in a recent excellent docu on BBC4 the longest single shot was about eight minutes - we used 'sleight of hand'
The soundtrack is also off the scale - well everything about this film is OFF THE SCALE.
If anyone reading this comment is thinking, 'will wait until this is on Netflix' Are YOU insane? Watching epic films like this demand that you have the full cinema experience - the sound quality at Peckhamplex is superb, sorry my old school first era 46 inch flat screen where I have to keep the volume level right down to almost 'background' just does not...
Read moreI’ve been coming here consistently for a year and have had generally good experiences (you definitely get what you pay for- the seats aren’t particularly comfy, the screen quality is just ok and often they forget to turn the lights off for the first few minutes of the film) but today I had seriously the worst customer service experience I have ever had. We purchased tickets on their machine outside and got an error message saying the printer wasn’t working and we could collect our tickets inside. When we went to the desk inside Mary served us and kept insisting that we hadn’t paid despite the fact that the message (which we had a photograph of which she more or less refused to even look at) said ‘YOU HAVE BEEN CHARGED’ in giant bold letters. While we tried to explain that we HAD been charged, it was just the printer and even showed her the transaction on our banking app she just kept speaking over us in an incredibly condescending tone even while another coworker of hers tried to explain to her that we were right. She insisted that the payment we showed her was just going to bounce (even though the machine said we had been charged) until after 15 minutes of back and forth attempting to get a word in with her they found on their system that we were right and we finally got our tickets. Never in my life have I met someone with such poor customer service skills- if you work in an establishment you should understand common problems like printer errors better than your customers, not need them and your coworker to attempt to explain to you and then STILL...
Read moreI've never done a review before, but this had to be done, had to be said. I hope I'm heard by management. What can i say about this place.....it has cheap cinema ticket prices compare to Vue and Odeon. People often say you get what you pay for. In this case i don't think so. Just because you pay low prices that doesn't mean something should be so nasty. This cinema has the potential of being lovely welcoming, place to go and watch a film with family and friends. Instead when your going into the screening your not expecting it smell cheesy, damp, musky there are plenty other smells i just can't name them. The floor is so sticky that your shoes come off ( lol nasty)the chairs are dirty with food from previous showings. Thats not on. It seems they just dont care anymore. I came with my mum and my kids and they to disappointed and disgusted . I remember going here when i was younger it was never like this. All they need to do is clean the place it's not hard! When i spoke to one of the staff to inform them the screening room smelt really bad all he said to me was ok. I want to support my local cinema but if management don't care about the state of the premises why should we support it. I know people want good value for money but not at the expense of cleanliness. come on clean the place up make us wanna come back and be a loyal customers. It looks like i have to pay the extra to avoid situations like this. It's a shame! Management sort it out! ! On the upside the customer was ok but there's always room for...
