One cocktail, one portion of chips and salsa, two tacos per person came to about £28 each. It was a mixed experience - food was mostly good but service felt quite rushed for no reason. The spicy margarita wasn’t that spicy or different to their regular margarita. The salsas are great and have a wonderful kick to them. The staff are right when they say two tacos per person is filling. I got the pork and the mushroom tacos - the pork was incredible but the mushroom was really underwhelming. I got the mushroom based on a review I saw here but I really wouldn’t recommend it unless you LOVE mushrooms. Instead the cauliflower taco is said to be great and my mate got the fish taco, which was delicious. The service wasn’t the best, especially given that they weren’t too busy. They sort of rushed to get us out of there, which I found odd. I’d recommend this place if you’re in the area and looking for some...
Read moreThe food is serviceable Mexican cuisine, with decently seasoned proteins and overall decent ambience. However please beware the chips and salsa which are not complimentary or a reasonable cost - a small portion of chips (think around 350g) with three dips (sour cream, salsa Verde and salsa rojo) cost £8. Although they are not on the menu, both the online or in-person menu, the chips were offered to us numeros times without a mention of cost. Having dined in similar establishments were bread or a similar carb is complimentary this is somewhat deceptive.
The tortillas, pictured below in the fish taco, were not warmed up which is also unusual. The portion sizes for the price point is very very small.
Overall go there for the margaritas when it's happy hour, 2 for 1, but apart from that no...
Read moreAs an LA transplant now based in Peckham, I'm thrilled the past few years have brought a few legitimately good places to go for Mexican food, but this place just might be my favourite of them all. The food at Taquiza is delicious, authentic, and affordable, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. I'm so tired of the 'too cool for school' attitude of some staff at Peckham's trendier places, but the service here is incredibly friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is festive, colourful, and welcoming, and they have great music played at a volume that doesn't prevent conversation. I wish other places in Peckham would take note: the area needs more like this. No airs, just a well-run little cantina with great food at reasonable prices. Book in advance but it's not hard to...
