Hotel Indigo Manchester - Victoria Station by IHG — Attraction in Manchester

The Hotel Indigo Manchester Victoria is a truly beautiful and convenient property within the IHG portfolio. The overall aesthetics and atmosphere provide sophistication and luxury that echo the industrial heritage of the city. This can been seen from the reception and bar area to the rooms themselves. The staff that served us were mostly outstanding, welcoming and friendly. I use the word “mostly” due to a few unfortunate missteps during out stay. The first disappointment was during check-in, where an otherwise friendly and welcoming staff member manning reception seemed either pre-occupied or scatterbrained during the process. While, they did welcome my IHG platinum elite status by offering the welcome amenities they did not actually provide me with what I requested. Furthermore, there was no attempt to offer us a complimentary room upgrade (rooms in a category above ours were still available on IHG.com). This unfortunately, happens to myself fairly frequently, perhaps I am just unlucky or perhaps I need to be more open and directly request/ask. Despite this, the room was lovely, although, I would have preferred a higher floor if possible. During our time here, we did notice that the hairdryer was unfortunately broken and did request this to be changed by going down to reception and I was told they would bring a new one to my room. Unfortunately, this took a very long time, by which point my partner’s hair had dried naturally after their earlier shower. As we did wait, however, I did decide to order room service. However, what I wanted was to use the main menu from 5-10pm. Despite calling at 9:30pm, I was told to order from the 24/7 menu, I ended up ordering a meal I actually didn’t really want and regretted continuing with the order if I am truly honest. If something is advertised to be served between a set period, then I would argue you should really adhere to that. Additionally, despite ordering something I didn’t want, the meal took one whole hour to eventually arrive, however it did arrive with the new hairdryer we requested. The food was small in portion and not that great for £16; my mood of staying in this lovely hotel had been greatly soured. Despite this, the beds were gorgeous and comfortable. The bathroom too with the rainfall shower felt wonderful to be in. However, I would say the water leaked heavily into the main bathroom area and the floor was utterly soaked; we ran out of towels to use for ourselves. So, I do feel that a door would have been a wise addition here. The restaurant and bar in the hotel were wonderful and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly while we were there. The breakfast the following morning, delightful, with hot food made to your request. Finally, the check-out process was quick, however, the lady at the reception didn’t follow up whether I wanted an invoice or whether we enjoyed our stay. Instead, they gave a slight look of confusion and said, “that’s everything”… I was a tad too flummoxed by that interaction and left without requesting an invoice, which I did via email when I got back home. I would still recommend staying at this hotel, but, the inconsistency of service during my stay slightly disappointing, and at times,...

I booked this some months ago for a peter kay gig at the AO. Location was key for me as i don't like busy places so didnt want a long walk from the station- didnt drive like we normally would as nowhere to park in manchester it seems. Literally 1 minute from the victoria station so ideal as you can access the arena via thr station too.

On arrival we were given our key and we were in a bit of a rush to get to a nearby restaurant for our reservation. Went to the room and immediately my eyes hit a CPAP machine mask on the bed, further glance round and there was womens clothing and medication. Erm lets get out of there. Back down to reception and told the girl who checked us in that the room was occupied. She was shocked and said they were meant to have checked out in the morning. This seemed strange as surely if the lady had, the room would have been cleaned for our arrival. After some time waiting they had another room for us. Beautiful on first look but we just dropped our bag and headed to the restaurant (see vapino review if you want...shocking service, we walked out and ended up at maccys). Returned to the hotel after the gig and had a quick drink in the bar. Only full fat soft drink was pub lemonade which wasnt very nice but whatever. Wine was ok. The room i have doscovered was rather dusty in places. Just before checking out we found a kettle, 4x milk pods water and coffee stuffs. We werent aware they were in the wardrobe and only located a nespresso machine with espresso cups...inside it was somehow dusty. Breakfast was nice. The girl on reception gave us this complimentary, due to the room error, after i enquired the cost (£19.95 each 😬) there was a good selection but little communication, cutlery wasnt set out on tables and we had to hunt/ask for stuff. They do make you poached or fried eggs fresh of you ask the staff and will bring it to your table, but this wasnt communicated very well. Poached eggs were nice too. The tomatoes werent cooked and the mushrooms werent cooked to our personal preference. Cups and glasses ran out quite quick. Not enough staff on in my opinion, as it was very busy. Would we stay here again? Yes we would if we were going to the AO as it is a quirky place and located great for the AO and train station. There is tram noise too at all hours. The price is pretty steep i paid 235 for one night with no breakfast included for that. I would have liked nore time to enjoy the hotel, but that is not...

The Indigo Manchester was a disappointment this year compared to our previous four stays over the last five years. The room standards have been similar throughout, and we were given a room that matched what I booked. However, we found the attitude at reception less attentive and both receptionists seemed more interested in the group of people arriving behind us. Also, the cleaners were not as thorough as previously for example they didn’t replace the water glasses we had used with clean glasses or replenish the complimentary items tray.

Regarding breakfast, although the cost has increased it does not reflect the quality I would expect from an Indigo hotel. The waitress that took our order was very pleasant and the continental selection was acceptable, the let down came with the cooked food and drinks. The poached eggs that came on my Eggs Benedict were more like little rubber balls. I can only assume that batches of poached eggs are prepared ahead and then reheated when required for serving to the customer. This results in the eggs being overcooked and hard. As mentioned in a previous review last year, although the coffee is served in a steel carafe, it only contains instant coffee which was very weak in our case. Also, there was no orange juice available but an orange flavoured drink.

The most annoying part of our stay this year was the fire alarm that went off at 1:30am. Although the alarm turned out to be false, by the time we found out we had dressed and were on our way down the stairs to reception from the 6th floor. There was no-one greeting us on the stairs to let people know it was a false alarm. My wife and I both struggled to get back to sleep and were left feeling totally lethargic the next day.

When we checked out, there were two people on reception and I asked if there would be any compensation for the loss of sleep from the fire alarm. I received an apology but no actual answer to my question. I ended up asking about the compensation three times before the senior person on reception apologized and said they would talk to the manager about providing some IHG reward points as compensation. So far the reward points have not materialized in my account and there has never been an apology from management.

Unless things improve, I will not be staying at the Indigo on future visits...
