Dining Experience @ Christmas Markets. . Operating only in the months of November to December, I was fortunate to be in town when the Christmas Markets were open. . Spread across 9 sites around the city centre, the Manchester Christmas Markets bring all the sights, sounds, and smells of festiveness. . Located at the Cathedral Gardens, the Warm Up At The Winter Bar is a cozy pop-up bar with festive Christmas drinks. . The Cocktail Mulled Wine (GBP £6.50) features a warm medium-thin beverage with fruity sweet sour earthy spice honeyed boozy flavour. This tipple feels and tastes festive, warms the body and soul, and I had great fun exploring the Christmas markets while slowly sipping this. . The Yorkshire Pudding Wraps Pop-Up is a welcoming pop-up stall specialising in a modern handheld treat. The open kitchen and piping hot food catches the eye, while the lovely aroma of grilling draws you in. . The Yorkshire Pudding Wrap (GBP £10) is a hearty and substantial handheld meal. Read moreItalian Festival at Cathedral Gardens (August 22 afternoon visit). Travelled from Wilmslow so not too far away. Not sure what this place really has to offer other than somewhere for city dwellers and workers to sit down / enjoy their lunchbreak. But If the weather is good and you are looking to kill a morning or afternoon, there is something on, then it can be quite enjoyable. Quite a relaxed environment, a gentle buzz from the live music, and not too busy with a good blend of people.
Tip: there is a free bus I took that runs from Piccadilly train station to various parts of the city including close to here, and its about a 20 minute walk if you prefer to walk. I won't attempt to list the stops. ..
As far as the Italian festival is concerned, don't get too excited, there were about 15 stalls of mainly food and drink, some live music. Enjoyable and sufficient for my needs, and many others but for me lacked authenticity. Some stallholders were not italian, this by itself was not an issue, but additionally I did not notice a big italian turnout, seemed to be more passers by. This was definitely a family...
Read moreCathedral Gardens covers an area surrounded by an array of buildings very old and very modern. There's some bars and eateries and then there's The Cathedral, Chethams school of music, Victoria Station, The National Football Museum and the old Corn Exchange. You can go in The Cathedral though if taking pictures you are asked to give a donation. There are tours around Chethams usually hourly during the weekdays, as it's one of the oldest buildings and I believe Libraries in Manchester but it's still a School so there's rules and regs you have to adhere to. Victoria Station has good rail links to the rest of the country and the Metrolink (Tram) has good links to the City Centre and Greater Manchester in general. There's good access to The Print Printworks entertainment complex, The Arndale Centre and Exchange Square. There have been assaults and muggings on the Gardens (though I've never had a problem) which is why I've only...
