At last, this beautiful, functional historic building has had some love bestowed upon it! Barnstaple Pannier Market has been closed for 8 months (from January to August 2023) to have essential work done. They reopened half of the market on 2nd August 2023 to reveal a smarter, freshly painted gorgeous market for traders, locals and visitors to enjoy. They've painted it white walls with light blue roof trusses and darker blue doors and accents. Added glass doors which has transformed the space flooding it with natural light. But the best part is that after decades it now has public loo's! And seriously OMG these loo's are amazing! NEW LUXURY SUITE OF FIVE SELF CONTAINED TOILET, BASINS & SUPER DUPER HANDDRYERS!!! But that's not all they also have a self contained BABY CHANGING SUITE with changing pull down table, kiddies loo, adult loo, basin, hand dryer & plenty of space for all the family, pram & dogs too!!! I love a decent clean public loo as i feel it's a really important ingredient to a day out. The other half of the market will be open within the next month and that will include a disabled loo so I'm told. The traders are happy and relieved to be back trading in the market and there was a great selection or goods on offer. Canvas local pictures, handbag stall selling a great selection at reasonable prices and beautiful Umbrellas, ethnic gifts, crafts, local paintings from local artists, clothing, belts,e cigarettes and accessories, jigsaws and puzzle books, cds, jewellery, antiques and bric-a-brac, toys to name a few! It's all under cover, free entry, wide entrances for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and double buggy. Plenty of space to browse and roam. Dogs are welcome too! The Market is open Tuesday to Saturday 9am to 4pm but I would visit in the morning as they start packing up at 2pm. It's closed on bankholidays. Most stalls have contactless payment. So pop in when you're in Barnstaple Devon, have a good rummage, find some bargains and as always support a local independent...

The Pannier Market really shines during its festivals and special events—they are fantastic and create such a vibrant, lively atmosphere. There’s a great variety of stalls and entertainment, making it a brilliant place to visit when these events are on. However, when it’s just a regular market, it can feel a bit disappointing. There are quite a few tatty-looking stalls selling items that resemble car boot sale finds, including some questionable things like cheap BB guns aimed at kids. It feels like the market has so much potential, and I’d love to see it reflect the quality it has during its events more consistently. Despite this, it’s still a good spot to visit, especially when there’s a...

Barnstaple Pannier Market is a wonderful old building. Fridays is a food market day with local produce on sale, as well as veg from Roz,s stall you can buy pork and lamb from Yetland Farm, they also do the best black pudding I have ever eaten. Free range eggs from Goodleigh and a cracking olive stall. There are lots of other excellent stalls selling good quality food and goods. Next door is Butchers row, Sadly no butchers anymore but a fabulous cheese and deli shop plus a good bakers and places to eat. If you havent been you are...

We took the chance to stroll through this market hall earlier in July - a Thursday. I was quite surprised to see that it was quite empty with only half the space occupied with stalls. Most, if not all of these were selling bric a brac of one kind or another. I recall the large stall selling jig saw puzzles and others selling textiles, cheap electronic goods etc. I had hoped to see some fruit and vegetable stores and the odd meat stall but no... Never mind. The old building itself is impressive and worth taking a look at.

An indoor market hall which is quite voluminous and not what I had expected. A mix of different sellers; unusual picture frames, chopping boards, clothes, shoes, antiques and brick a brac, ethnic and silver jewellery, bags, toys and CBD oil with glassware smoking equipment, to name the variety that I can remember. It is easy to find and there is city centre parking nearby.
