Overall: My first visit to Pickie Fun Park was a lovely day out with three adults and one toddler.
Pickie is one of those charming vintage seaside attractions, unafraid to display its warts and slightly dusty displays. Yet its imperfections make it all the more charming and allows a connection to historical Bangor, with past models of their famous swan boats scattered throughout the park. Ancient (yet still functioning!) arcade amusements complete the historic vibe. Classic independent theme park, providing entertainment for all ages.
It was a quiet, overcast day we attended and the service was sparse (in their defense it was a very slow traffic day -- it seemed the entire park was staffed by three teenagers) but helpful and friendly. Given Pickie's convenient central Bangor location, we will be back without a doubt.
The large and well-equipped park was perhaps the best received among our party, especially the three year old. Us older folks were very happy for the ample benches and the chance to catch up while the kid to burned off her energy.
Why 4 stars instead of 5: I understand COVID has required a sudden and radical adjustment for many businesses, but purchasing tickets online was confusing and difficult. As most of us in our party hadn't attended the park before, it was unclear how many tickets were needed for each ride, which was further frustrated by the non-conventional naming of the rides.
For example: Pickie Puffer is a cute name, but those of us who haven't been to the park shouldn't need to do research to find out that it's a mini train. Just say what it is, not everybody attending is familiar with the park. Especially if you're requiring pre-booking as the site indicates. Not to mention that the park is for children, who might not want to know what they want to ride until they're there in person. The booking system is not very user friendly at the moment, but it would be simple and inexpensive to improve. I urge Pickie to consider options to purchase tokens on the day as that would help families to better...
Read moreGreat family day out. We love a family day out annually to Bangor and most importantly the Pickie Park. Girls are age 13, 11 and 8. Lots to do and its fantastic they now have all day all inclusive wrist bands so the girls can go on whatever they want and how many times they want. Cost £15 per child but as each activity would cost £3 or £4 it means they can do as much as they want and you know your max cost. They made great use of the water zorb balls, spinning type bumper cars, pickie puffer, crazy golf, swans and disco ducks. Cafe serves good variety of delicious food reasonably priced. The 5 of us ate for about £36. Adults were burger & chips, steak sandwich and fries. 2 kids meals of chicken gougons & fries, pizza and fries. Eldest child had a vegetarian toasted sandwich. Kids meals had drinks included and extra 2 cokes. Staff all friendly and helpful. Ladies toilets immaculate. We will definitely be back. Great play park but we didn't have...
Read moreOpening times inaccurate, spoiled our visit. I booked online (you can't purchase tickets at the gate) for a 4.30 time slot, and paid for 30 tickets for my daughter. I was somewhat surprised when I arrived on time to find the cafe closing. On our 3rd attraction, the mini golf, 2 seperate staff members approached us to ask anxiously how many tickets we had left and what we were going to use them for. This seemed a bit strange to me. After the golf we wanted an ice cream but the shop was closed. This was at 5.30pm. We headed for the swans instead but they were all moored. I finally found a member of staff who agreed reluctantly to let us on the ride. I asked was closing time not 7pm, and she said no it was 6. This doesn't agree with the stated time on the website, which is now not working this morning. Poorly organised and disappointing. I had to leave with unused tickets which apparently are non refundable. I would like management to...
