This is a small but beautiful garden, set in a old quarry just by the Catholic cathedral. As it is a sunken garden in a former quarry, the gardens are sheltered from the cold North Sea winds that are often a feature of the Norwich climate. On a sunny, breezy Norfolk day, the Plantation Gardens can be an oasis of stillness and calm. It is the British equivalent of a Japanese Garden, perfect for taking a date, reading, or engaging in a contemplative series of sit and stare moments. It is not a children's playground, or a picnic area. You can do all that 250 yards away in Chapelfield Gardens. And that is the problem. The Plantation Gardens are too small to be too successful. As there are plenty of open spaces in the vicinity for children to play and picnicers to picnic, perhaps they need to build on its strengths and encourage quietude. The city is noisy and narcissistic; it would be nice for nature and those of us looking for respite, to have a small place where silence and stillness is respected and encouraged.

Hidden 'just' outside of the city centre this little place is lovely to walk around. The very well maintained pathways lead round as you explore up and around. Admission is free, there is an honesty box where a suggested £2 donation is placed which can be paid via the Web on mobile too. Its honestly worth paying for near unlimited time you can walk, sit and enjoy the place. Parking isn't available at location but parking just a 5 minute walk away is reasonable especially as you can pay an all day price and head into the city too. The gardens themself are very bright, colourful and very well maintained. Truely picturesque from above. Lots of steps to navigate to get up there, but still well worth the hike. Overall I'd highly recommend taking a picnic here and enjoying it while the sun is out.

SO glad a friend suggested this to go and explore mini marvel. I knew we were going to love it from the moment we gave our donation into the honesty box - an original GR post box! July is a great month to visit as most of the blooms are at their best. We walked down the slope and a fantastic view opened in front of us, a wonderful display of formal and wild planting, a tall Victorian fountain, and Gothic style walling and random monuments were scattered throughout the garden. Not huge, so we could meander through and see everything, plenty of seats to sit and contemplate. Sadly nowhere to buy a drink/snack so remember to take your own if you want to linger, which you will! Only one toilet, not open all the time so be careful, right at the beginning We loved it and will definitely return.

What a lovely hidden gem! The gardens are a small walk from Norwich centre but it is 100% worth the walk. This amazing garden is set down a gentle slope which means you hear zero noise from the main road, completely shut off from the outside world surrounded in amazing plant life. The information boards dotted around give an amazing insight into the history of the gardens and what it once was. The majority of the gardens are easily accessible but there are paths higher up that require steps but entry to the main gardens is a gentle slope from main road. The entrance fee of £2 per person is an absolute bargain and worth every penny. You’re unable to pay by card but there’s a mobile txt option which is what we used. There’s no toilets in the gardens but the Cathedral next door has toilets.

The Plantation Garden is a charming oasis of greenery that offers a tranquil and peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Despite having little flowers, the garden boasts a variety of lush green plants and trees that create a picturesque backdrop for visitors. The garden is home to an array of colorful birds that can be heard chirping joyfully throughout the day, adding to the serene ambiance. What's more, the garden is easily accessible and is perfect for families to visit and enjoy a day out. With ample space to relax and unwind, this is a great place to soak in nature and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. Overall, the Plantation Garden is a must-visit for anyone seeking a peaceful and rejuvenating experience amidst nature.

Lovely place to relax or to take in the immaculate beds. Admission is a £2 fee per adult to pay for the upkeep of the gardens (when we visited it was via an honesty box). Parking is available next door at a pay.and display car park which I believe costs £1 per hour. There is also limited on road parking. The garden contains a number of information boards relating to the history of the gardens and the plants contained within. It is a lovely multi layered garden with paths twisting upwards and also a small bridge to cross, as such it is, sadly, probably unsuitable to wheelchair users and the infirm. The only reason I am giving it 4 rather than 5 stars is the lack of a toilet (on our visit at least).
