Some people in Norwich speak about Bread Source with the same degree of wonder as those fortunate few, who have witnessed an apparition of our Blessed Lady.
I am not so easily enamoured. After a certain age, butterflies and the magic of yeast, flour and sugar tend to pass you by. You expect to see butterflies without having to endure caterpillars and enjoy bread without having to kiss the bakers apron.
The bread and pastries are fine, what is not so fine are the staff. Often they behave as if they are celebrities and you are just another grubby trucker troubling them for their autographs.
One redeeming exception to this charmless morass is the young staff member called Wesley. This young man works hard, shows attention to detail and can easily be prevailed upon to smile.
I hope that the rest of the team at Bread Source learn from Wesley.
Dealing with customers, many of whom can be casually rude is not easy. But charm is an underrated quality and will be more useful in your future career than many of the courses you spent years studying in school and college.

Read moreI placed an online order for a selection of pastries and they arrived when they said they would and delivery was free over £15, great start.
But, after opening the boxes the quality was seriously below what I was expecting. The croissants were quite dense and the crust was a very dark colour that required a lot of chewing and was not flaky in the slightest.
The cardamom roll I had was also very chewy and very dry. I don't know for sure but it wouldn't have surprised me to learn that it was several days old. The flavour was OK.
The natas were also on their side pressed together in the box they came in. The case, again, was so chewy that it lost all structure when trying to bite one because I had to pull the other half while grinding my teeth to eat the thing! The filling was quite tasty though, probably should have just got a spoon and ate it straight out of the shell.
Pretty disappointed. Honestly don't know what went so wrong but I could have spent less than half the money on slightly better pastries from a...

I used to buy my coffee and pastry here but the last few experiences have been really bad. I had a truly disappointing experience the other day at Bread Source Bakery. The staff were incredibly rude, talking to customers for ages no greeting, no smile, and acted like I was a nuisance just for asking a simple question about whether the pastries were made the same day. It felt like I was inconveniencing them by being there.
To make things worse, I bought an almond croissant that looked decent but was hard as a rock and when asked to change it, I was told that all of them were the same. I’m not exaggerating, it was like biting into a stone. Completely inedible. Between the terrible service and the awful food, I honestly don’t know how this place stays open. Flies everywhere sitting on the bread. It was so unhygienic.
Definitely won’t be coming back. There are far better bakeries around that actually care about their customers and...
