The stars are for the fact that this place serves vegan meals and the roasts are pleasant. I am unable to say anything positive regarding the customer service received by either my group or other customers near me. The bar staff are efficient in serving drinks and taking the orders for the Sunday roasts. After this everything went to pieces. There were 6 in our party. The meals were served to our group two at a time. There was a 30 minute wait between the first two and the next two. There was then a 1 hour 10 minute wait between the middle two and the last 2 being served. This was after the waiting staff had attempted to clear the table before the last two were served and a request made at the bar for the last 2 to be served. Our group were told that it was our fault these delays had occurred as we had all requested separate bills at our table! I noticed people getting up from other tables and attempting to attract the waiting staffs attention to try and find out how long their meals would be as they had been waiting more than 30 minutes. The people who had popped in for a drink looked relaxed and appeared to be enjoying themselves. In the light of our experience, in spite of the decent food, I would not recommend visiting this place if you want to enjoy a relaxing meal with...
Read moreI have never been so insulted in a pub in my life - and I am old and have been to thousands. Were it possible to give less than one star, I would. I only write this as a warning to others who may be tempted to make the same mistake I did last Sunday. The pub, though a little dingy and shabby, was quite busy. I stood waiting at the bar for over five minutes as a number of staff ignored me, filling trays with drinks and waking past. Eventually, I stopped someone - a little, old guy - and asked: "Excuse me, but is it table service only here today?" To which he curtly replied: "No. But I'm not stopping doing what I'm doing now to serve you." With this, he picked-up his tray of drinks and walked away. Well, "cead mile failte" by backside!! A simple, "We're very busy, but someone will be right with you" perhaps? No, not a bit of it! So, I'll never know if the Guiness (sometimes I've been known to have a second pint!!) is as good as other reviewers have said, but I couldn't say that the smell of the food was particularly tempting. Norwich is a city blessed with loads of pubs, many serving food, where you can enjoy a warm welcome and a well run bar. This place isn't one of them. You have...
Read moreArrived early and had a pint whilst waiting for a table for two. Once it was cleaned we were seated and within minutes our orders taken. Food arrived (two turkey roasts) within 10 to 15 minutes, warned the plates were hot (and they were). A couple of doorstep slices of turkey, with roast potatoes, parsnips, caramelised onion and then arriving separately a large bowl of carrots, broccoli, peas and sprouts, then a bowl of cauliflower cheese and finally, two pots of cranberry sauce to finish off. Absolutely lovely and plates cleaned. Brilliant food, service from all and a laugh with the manager to boot. Definitely recommended and will return next time in Norwich for last sitting at 1630 so we can expand at table, drink and watch the...
