On the 23rd of April at 15:00 I was visiting the Weston libraries and saw some signs talking about the reading rooms. So I approached the information desk to get detailed information on the usage of reading rooms. The receptionist lady at the desk was very rude and told me they are closed. I told her I only want to get some information. She told me "I do not know what your status is. Come back tomorrow." and continued to type on her computer. I asked her about how the library card works and how do we get a card and she said she said: "I told you to come tomorrow". She raised her voice and was very rude and unwelcoming towards me. I told her that the words Information are written behind her however she is not willing to provide any information and on top of that, she is raising her voice and being rude. She did not care to give me more information and she wasn't willing to help me out. I'm very disappointed that such rude service is provided at the Weston library information desk. Clearly, the person is not interested in providing any value to the visitors and busy looking at the computer screen and not caring what the customers need. I reported this to the library via email and they did not care to respond, thus I'm sharing this...
Read moreVery surprised by my reception yesterday, the first day for ages with no masks legally required so I was very much looking forward to visiting Oxford and seeing the exhibition here in particular.
Camilla was on tv with her entourage a few days ago in the Weston Library with no masks on so I was encouraged and happy to make the journey.
There are no mask signs and In the lobby there is a cafe full of folks with no masks including some of the staff, but as soon as I entered the empty exhibition I was told in no uncertain terms that masks are compulsory.
I have a medical exemption, and was severely distressed to be treated in such a manner. Such utter arrogance and ignorance of the law is unbelievable in a forward thinking university city.
Masks are no longer a legal requirement in England and even when they were government guidance stated that non mask wearers should not be challenged regarding their exemption.
Masks are advisory only, not a legal requirement, and then only in busy indoor settings. An empty exhibition is not a busy indoor setting.
Very shoddy behavior and very discriminatory. I expected so...

You must put your bag in a locker. See the 2nd photo: “bags that are larger than this [sign] or bags that this sign will fit into will not be permitted in the Weston Library”. You will be asked to open your laptop on your way in and out for them to check 💻 Pencils only in the Special Collection Reading Room. No pens, highlighters or crayons (See 3rd photo)
The security measures are understandable, presumably because the library holds rare collections, and is located in one of the the busiest areas in Oxford (opposite the Sheldonian Theatre and close to...
