The Watering Hole: Where the Sun Sets, the Cider Flows, and Even the Dogs Look Chuffed With Themselves
The Watering Hole on Perranporth Beach is one of those places that somehow manages to feel both legendary and completely relaxed at the same time, and it lives up to its name every single time we visit. You donât just go to the Watering Hole; you experience it. And you usually leave a little happier (and a little more full) than when you arrived.
First off, the drinks. The ales are proper, the famous Rattler cider does exactly what it promises (in that slightly âwoah, thatâs stronger than I thoughtâ kind of way), and everything feels fresh, well-kept, and served with a smile. If youâre after a beachside pint, youâre in the right place , no question.
The food is exactly what you want from a place like this, tasty, fast, no-nonsense dishes you can happily enjoy either perched outside with the sea breeze in your hair or inside where itâs warm and full of atmosphere. Good mix of quick bites and satisfying plates, nothing too fussy, just reliably good.
And the setting? Honestly unbeatable. On a proper summerâs evening, sat outside gazing out as the sun sets over the sand, drink in hand, itâs like someone designed it specifically for Instagram (and your soul). Even when the Cornish weather decides to misbehave, inside is still brilliant, cosy but lively, with sports on the screens if thatâs your thing, plenty of space to eat, chat, and soak up the vibe.
And of course, the dogs. The Watering Hole is fully dog-friendly, which means you can bring your furry mate along and nobody bats an eyelid when they park themselves under your table looking smug.
So if you find yourself on Perranporth Beach and fancy great drinks, tasty food, friendly staff, and a view that will make you wonder why you donât move here full-time⊠The Watering Hole is waiting. Legendary by name,...
Read moreWow!. My first time here and what an experience. Peranporth beach at low tide is a massive expanse of clean, flat golden sand and today (a Saturday in December) was a dog heaven. Relatively small pay and display car park in the centre of a bustling coastal town will fill very quickly at busy visitors times so be warned. Book early. The Watering Hole is set at the top of the beach, commanding a fabulous view of the flat surf set beach, raised up a little on a sand bank with numerous picnic bench seats outside was a really welcome place for a short respite. Inside is a cafe bar in every sense of the description. Sand scattered all.across the floor added to the superbly relaxed atmosphere. Many large screen TVs displaying premier League rugby when we visited provide a great distraction. A trendy bar was open as was the cafe, offering cake, coffee and other light bites as well as a variety of lunch options, including a charmingly misspelled 'mackrel' dish. Staff were smiling and willing and polite, all busy clearing, checking and making sure things ran smoothly. Dog friendly as long as on a lead. Coffee and mocha were nicely made and were hot. The brownie was fresh and just delightful for this chocoholic. Toilets are outside but we're easily accessible and clean. All in all a great visit. Well done to whoever owns / manages this place and to all who work there. I fully recommend this as a main reason to visit this...
Read moreGreat location for a pub/ restaurant, canât fail really. Food and drinks massively overpriced. ÂŁ12 for 2 non-alcoholic beers. Went with partner and two young kids, got a burger each and 2 cheesy fries to share, along with drink came to ÂŁ87, which is far too much for decent food. but the quality was very poor. Burger dry with no sauce, I put some mayo on myself but youâd think any half decent (chef?) would have the initiative to do this, especially for ÂŁ16 a burger. Chips with cheese were so cold that not a single piece of the cheese had melted and overall food was cold. Hot dog were basic, cheap af tinned hotdogs in buns with mustard squirted on in a zig-zigging manner and sprinkled with paprika, to give the impression that it was worth ÂŁ12. On top of all this you had to go collect your own food from a counter when it is ready, only to get there and see 3 staff members stood leaning against the counter not doing much waiting for you to come. Would be much better off buying from one of the takeaways on the high street and walking the short walk to the beach to eat it and buying beers from coop and doing the same. I think this place benefits greatly from its location because if they served the quality of food and charged as much for ale anywhere else the wouldnât...
