With the warmer weather and sun blazing on Tuesday, me and a mate felt a pull to go visit Stonehaven, a picturesque coastal town nestled along the stunning northeastern shores of Scotland. With its rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and historic charm, Stonehaven offers a delightful blend of natural beauty and rich heritage waiting to be explored.
We started off with a brilliantly tasty coffee from the theoldpier and enjoyed the picturesque view from their mini balcony. Then we wandered along the harbour to see the ocean views before walking along the beach and enjoying the metal sculptures and sun-kissed seascape.
Of course, I couldn’t resist going to the thecarronfishbar and getting the fabled battered mars bar, as this is supposedly the birthplace of the odd delicacy? They are glorious, by the way, absolutely glorious, but best kept as an occasional treat! A must try if you've not had one before.
Stonehaven really is genuinely gorgeous and such a pleasant place to saunter about. Lots of cute cafés and the well-renowned auntybettystonehaven too, with their incredible ice cream. If the queues weren't so long that day, I may have been persuaded to get some.
It had been quite a while since I’d last visited Stonehaven for one reason or another. But we had a pretty swell time there this week, so I won’t be leaving it so long until...

Stonehaven Harbour is one of the most picturesque coastal spots I’ve visited in Scotland. Nestled in the charming town of Stonehaven, this historic harbour offers an incredible mix of natural beauty and local character. Whether you’re visiting for a quiet walk, some fresh seafood, or a bit of coastal photography, there’s something here for everyone.
The harbour itself is beautifully maintained, with colourful boats gently bobbing on the water and a lovely stone pier that gives you wide views of the North Sea. On a clear day, the reflections on the water are magical — perfect for drone footage or simply soaking in the atmosphere. It’s peaceful and rarely overcrowded, making it a great escape from busier tourist spots.
Just a short walk away is the iconic Dunnottar Castle perched dramatically on the cliffs — a must-see for anyone visiting the area. Around the harbour, you’ll find a few local pubs and cafes where you can enjoy traditional Scottish dishes or a warm drink with a view.
The people here are friendly, and the town itself feels authentic and welcoming. Whether you’re a local or a first-time visitor, Stonehaven Harbour leaves a...
Read moreVery scenic and beautiful. No better place to be on a hot summer day. Turquoise water and white sand. As you would expect it gets very busy in the summer and if you were looking for an outdoor seat at one of the hotel/pubs around that line the harbour you'll be lucky. I avoid that side of the harbour as I like a bit more room so there are some been benches that line the other side of the harbour, I've always managed to get a seat and you get the best view of the harbour. It would be better if the road in front of the harbour was closed off in summer. There are m/f and disabled toilets harbourside. Don't miss the harbour festival that is held each year here, it's fantastic, great entertainment and stalls selling local produce. Behind the harbour is a long boardwalk that takes you along the beachfront. Look out for the cute fish sculptures! This is also where the car park is too There is seating and picnic tables set on the side a bit further along. There is lots of room. The boardwalk is suitable for mobility aids like chairs, scooters and walkers, although it can get busy people are always respectful...
