I'm currently staying with friends here in Stonehaven and was brought here for lunch today - the outside of the tearooms is so different to what's inside, I had no idea this little gem was hiding in here! 😄 Gorgeous tearooms and very quirky/unique, with vintage china on shelves behind the counter and other teacups, mugs and milk jugs made into lots of light fittings in the ceiling, so unique! There's plenty of room inside and various amounts of seating available, so whether you're on your own or in a larger party there's lots of choice of where to sit. Service: the waitresses were so friendly and accommodating, they checked that the soup I wanted to order was free of mustard and didn't make me feel like I was being awkward when I asked. Service was fast and efficient. The kitchen is in the back room so there was no noise from appliances etc, just a 'ding-ding' on a bell when an order was up 😄 Food: the food was A-MAZ-ING! My friend ordered the ham and lentil soup, and I had the butternut squash, lentil and thyme soup, both with soda bread. Everything is homemade and to perfection. Later we had a cup of tea with their scone special-of-the-day which was apple and cinnamon, again baked to perfection and huge! 😋 They always have a massive selection of homemade jams as well, in traditional and different flavours - I had damson jelly jam and my friend had bramble jam. Bottom line: this tea rooms makes me wish I lived 300 miles closer so that I could visit every week! Friendly staff, delicious food and a unique atmosphere, you won't regret visiting here!

In Beautiful Stonehaven, we were looking for the chip shop that sells Mars Bars in Batter ... not that we crave that particular delicacy ... but there's also a good reputation around the fish suppers supplied there and, though it was early in the day ... Well. Our drive around the scenic harbour at Stoney took us past a homely looking eaterie happily offering any "Cool Gourmet" some tasty hand-delivered-and-table-served fare. Speciality soups like their Cullen Skink and about six other choices at least looked well-made, wholesome and yummy ... and we chose their lovely Asparagus one and another delightful dish of Tattie and Leek. It must be said if all their stuff is as good as their soups and the Victoria Sponge we sampled, they are onto a winner. Had I been ravenous, I would have had a portion of their Beef Stovies ... But I will return one day for a temptingly described "Full Scottish Roast Dinner" from the expert hands of these talented and enthusiastic chefs. Their motto is: "If we sell it, we make it" ... and so, I would certainly wish them All The Best in this quirky, recent and excellent venture.

This is a hidden gem of a cafe which is easily missed walking down to Stoney harbour. We shared a broccoli and blue cheese soup and a roast chicken with cheese and Dijon mustard toastie. Both were truly excellent. The warm chicken breast in the toastie was obviously fresh off the cooked bird, moist and the tastiest we’d had in memory. Cheese and mustard was a brilliant touch. It was hard to choose from the long list of home made jams to put on the fruit scone. We hadn’t had blackcurrant jam forever as blackcurrants are not generally available in the US where we had been stranded for a few years until we escaped last year to move to this beautiful town. The jam was so good we asked if we could buy a pot. Sadly we couldn’t as the owner (who is the cook) said it was not economical to make. But we’ll be back again anyhow. We shared the home made lemon drizzle cake and it was the best in memory. As Stoney residents now, we’ll be regulars. Jealous that you don’t live here? You should be!
