Durham County Council had introduced parking fees a few weeks before we visited ( for my wife's birthday treat!). They were causing some confusion due to the information on the signs. £1 for up to an hour, £3 for 2 hours or more, up to 6pm...if my memory serves. Disabled drivers have to pay the same rate. There are a few Council car parks, but tickets are not transferable. We used 2 car parks that afternoon, it cost us £6. On the bright side it's cheaper than a lot of hospital car parks! Apparently, local businesses are petitioning the Council as they have already started to experience a fall in trade. As to the beach? I couldn't access it (disabled), but my wife did go down the steps to get to the water. Sand is sand and sea is...

I've lived in Blackhall all my life and as kids we used to go down the beach banks, the beach and all of the dene's that surround us quite a lot. Now I am a father with two boys of my own we love exploring the coast. We take the dog with us, we search the rock pools for crabs and other sea life, we climb through the caves just like I did as a kid and we fish down there too, we haven't caught anything yet but the boys love it and it's about making memory's. Just about every time we go down we see something new, we've seen seals happily swimming in the shallows and hermits crabs in the rock pools. If you live near by the coast you should make use of it, it would be a...

Once it was grimy with coal leavings from local mines, now it is truly a heritage coast. Rocks of every colour and shade that make you want to take them home for your coffee table. You can't! This coast is now rightly protected and the home of some equally cherished bird life. The views are stunning, the shushing of waves and swooping of gulls, crunching of pebbles underfoot...it's my idea of a corner of heaven. Take off your shoes and let the damp sand feel your feet, dare to paddle in the north sea wavelets, breathe in the salty ocean smells and far blue horizon. My family...

Walked from Crimdon to Seaham and back again, along the Durham Coast Path. The path is well made for about 65%of the way and is fairly easy going, except for the 6 or 7 steep climbs down and up when crossing the gills and coves. The scenery is excellent and the views up and down the coast are wonderful, stretching to Whitby in the south, on a clear day!!! Well worth stretching the legs on this path though it might be wise to do it in sections as it is about 11 miles in length. Enjoy the wind blowing in your face and, hopefully, the sun making the scenery even more beautiful!!!

What a lovely place to spend a summer evening! The North Seaham beach is a good mix of sand, pebbles of all sorts and stunning craggy cliffs dotted with caves. Perfect for wading in to chase waves (although not safe for swimming as the shelf is quite steep further out!), looking for fossils and interesting stones on the tide line and dipping in and out of caves further ashore - a place I imagine must be perfect for childhood adventure play (pirates, of course). Dog and picnic friendly - we weren't even pestered by seagulls!

This is a truly wonderful area, well set up and prepared for walkers and richly supplied with wonderful scenery. There are many places for taking in lovely coastal views if you just want to visit without completing any of the coastal walk (but do walk it if you can). There are seats here and there for a rest and perhaps some quiet contemplation. We encountered some of the very friendly locals.
