Dire.
I must begin this review with a heartfelt apology for my emotive language, for my disappointment is so deeply felt this evening.
I visited Pitcher and Piano after my younger brotherâs graduation, visiting the marina expecting dinner and drinks overlooking the sightly yachts. Little did I know my (and my familyâs) evening would end in little more than sour disappointment.
We went first for a quick drink across the marina before deciding on P&P, mainly due to having visiting both the London and Nottingham branches and enjoying the drinks. We ordered drinks (having just caught the happy hour in time) and starters at the bar, and took our seats outside, where we were duly informed table service had ceased to apply. Nonetheless, we waited for our food and drinks which took plenty of time to arrive. The drinks were nothing to write home about, but we had not expected cocktails of the finest class, so we began our starters without trepidation. Again, we were not expecting a great deal, but the starters were disappointing to say the least, four deep fried prawns and four deep fried pieces of chicken alongside some soggy bread passing for bruschetta didnât really cut it.
The mains, however, are the sole reason for this slating review. I will not speak for my family, but I will review my âpulled pork burgerâ and âchipsâ. Firstly, post-order, the food arrived after a meek 45 minutes (secondary to a hurry-up from my brother). Secondly, it arrived as if having been in the oven for the entire 45 minutes. The âburgerâ itself was so over-cooked it would have been tough work for a hungry raptor, and the stringy chips put McDonaldâs to shame. In fact, I will rephrase, at least McDonaldâs seasons their food. The âpulled porkâ looked and tasted like it had been defrosted then and there and dumped on top of the âburgerâ.
I canât find more words to express my disappointment, and nothing can do justice to the travesty we just experienced.
I can only find solace in the fact that the servers were lovely and perhaps do not know of the...
Read moreMy husband and I visited the Pitcher and Piano last Sunday with my daughter who is at university in Southampton. We all had the kids size roast dinners as we wanted to have room for a dessert.
My daughter decided to visit the Pitcher and Piano again this Sunday with her friend. They, again, ordered the kids size portion but they had the roast chicken whereas last week we had the beef and nut roasts. They were advised that it would be an hour wait if they wanted the nut roast.
However, when it came time to pay they found that they had been charged full price for their meals. They queried this with the waitress, she then went and spoke to another waitress and they had a discussion. The waitress then came back and said that she didnât hear them say kids portion when they ordered so they had received the full portion and had to pay full price. She said that they should have said something when the order was brought to the table. Well, given that neither of them had the roast chicken there before how were they supposed to know what size portion to expect? As the kids portions that we had recovered the week before were of a similar size my daughter had assumed it was correct. Despite arguing this with the waitress she was adamant that they would have to pay full price, which they did.
We had enjoyed our meal the week before and planned to return on our next visit to Southampton but this has left a bad taste.
Note to self, apparently you have to ask the waitress if the order is correct when they bring your...
Read moreIâve been here quite a few times before and the good and atmosphere have been great. We came in New Yearâs Eve understand that the menu was limited (fair enough) but the standard was awful. Donât know if there has been a change of chef but they seriously need to know that sending out hard , dry , gods knows how long ago the chicken had been cooked in the pitta bread is unacceptable. Especially at the price you pay for a main. There was hardly any chicken in there at all. I returned the food without even tasting it and they did bring me the chicken screwer instead which was freshly cooked. We normally have bang bang cauliflower which they said you no longer do please bring that back. Also the halloumi fries this time we felt like they had been reheated and felt on the dry side. We normally have them abs they are piping hot and nice and crispy. Will give Southampton pitcher and piano another go but if itâs like this again then definitely wonât go back. I think management need to do anonymous checks on places to see the quality for themselves to see that standards donât slip. We took friends with us as we had been saying how nice it was to eat there and felt rather embarrassed at the food. Also I love music and pound at times but this was so loud you couldnât hear each talk. We spend over ÂŁ100 here that night and felt we had mediocre food. Please do random checks and make sure the chefs have high standards as itâs the company reputation on the line. Being a business owner myself I know that...
