Wakefield Kirkgate — Attraction in Wakefield

Typical unmanned station - been some improvements but underpass still dark & dingy. Haven't used Kirkgate station in years. Only wanted to wait to see family onto/away on a train. Pay parking diabolical!! No coin or contact payment options - we!?! are expected to down load their app on to our phones! , register & pay - all demanded within 10 minutes of arrival. Also at 5:30 on a Sunday, overheard no staff answered 'information/help' intercom to help two teenage unaccompanyied girls with train/platform questions. Customer services still...

Don't use very often as prefer to travel from Westgate station but unfortunately the free city bus around Wakefield doesn't run on a Sunday so had to travel from here to avoid walking across the city, it's fine as a way of getting from Wakefield to Leeds without too much hassle but there isn't much of anything to look at while waiting for trains. As a whole after the renovations it's ok as a station but improvements could still be made. Definitely would benefit from public toilets being added along at least 1 platform and a simpler...

This was an efficient station to get off the Knottingley train at, with a well-sized platform for the train that only had the problem of a good portion of the area being closed off for construction. Displays for journeys are fully modernized and on all 3 platforms, while the signs make navigating around very easy and the subway is a smooth connection between the last 2 platforms and platform 1; it was clean and bright throughout when I visited!
