What a tourist (and Locals) treasure. Set on the old Tavistock Market Place, central, and if you have parked on the town's Riverside car parks (remember to display the tickets and write down the expiry times...), thou you will have a walk to the market, it will be a beautiful stroll thru the river and past the Weir of the river. Now to The Market itself. Clean free toilets. What a great treat (less able friendly as well). Inside you have a fantastic selection of stalls selling gifts, locality made crafts, to antiques and local food. On the "inner walls" you will find seating benches to relax (or eat cakes....) And the inner circle of shops selling coffees, cakes x olives x, cheeses. It's a wealth of shops own locally, and selling mostly local produce. Flowers, pasties, clothes, teas, souvenirs. I love this place (and yes, you can discuss the final prices to lower affordable prices). Just bought a 2nd hand bed spread (looks new) but mostly, stocked my card collection of (sorry) Cat cards. "Mark Denman'" stall sells paintings, cards x and everything cats. (might have dogs too, but as cat lover I overshadowed...). Excelente quality material. Came back 4 times to purchase cards, fridge magnet, posters, paintings. I should have asked for a discount deal really, but I did love their staff, and now quality gifts...
Read moreI am not that keen on markets. They tend to be congested with traders and goods packed in close proximity leaving little room for manoeuvre. They are often piled high with stuff you don't want in your house. To some this is heaven. When I shop it is generally for something specific. I go to someone who sells it, buy it and get out. Some people like to wander round until they see something that might come in handy even though they did not know they needed it when they left home. Then they have to buy something to justify all that time they spent. If this is your kind of shopping you will find the Pannier market a great place. It has a wide variety of products including fresh produce, baked goods, clothing, leisure and entertainment items. There are good toilet facilities and there are plenty of small restaurants outside. There is also an excellent cheese shop behind the market. The town is a minute away and there is an interesting local museum round the corner. So, although only three stars, this is because of its sort it is good but not my kind of shopping. Tavistock is well worth a visit and is a good base for day trips around that...
Read moreA wonderful shopping experience especially when it is a sunny day as the building is illuminated by beautiful natural light. It has recently been renovated and what a great job they did, not looking to modernise the building just show it of to its best. The building has regular stalls and a changing number of stalls making the visit different every visit. The people are local and very friendly, you can buy rare or collectable books, antiques and collectable, home made cards, water colours and beautiful photographs, hats of all types crafts and hand crafted glass. I find this place a joy and the added bonus of a outdoor cafe culture surrounding this building with specialist cheese suppliers art shops and charity services even a laundry. All this hidden behind the shops of the n Main street only clearly seen from the front of the Town Square, watch out for the different promotions ran...
