West Park is a beautiful park - one of the most beautiful I know of and also one of the earliest formal parks in the country. It has a beautiful Glass house where you can see some more exotic plants and succulents, a lovely large lake which is divided by a bridge you can walk over. If you walk the circumference of the park it is exactly 1 mile. You'll see a wide variety of trees throughout the park from all over the world including some stunning Acers (Japanese Maple), Canadian pine and even the beautiful Ghost Tree otherwise known as the Handkerchief Tree, which has unusual flowers adorning its branches at the end of May that (surprise, surprise!) look like handkerchiefs! The park is very dog friendly, with 3 large fields and plenty of bins. You'll also find lots of squirrels and birds in the park. There is year round interest in the park with beautifully tended gardens and vistas that are very well looked after by the Park Rangers. There are several entrances to the park around it so it's easy to get in and out of regardless of which way you approach it from. There's also lots of parking surrounding the Park but this is sometimes taken up sadly especially if there is an event or a Wolves match! There is a small tea room opposite the bandstand and a toilet block on the West Park Hospital side of the park. Another feature of the park is the lovely old brass bandstand which is sometimes used by practicing brass bands through the summer. If you have small children there is a lovely little play area which is fenced off so little ones can play safely. It's a stone's throw from the City Centre (15-20min walk) and has popular bus routes that pass near the park. Definitely one of the loveliest Victorian parks to see and a gem in...

West Park in Wolverhampton is a Victorian gem, a sprawling green space that offers a delightful escape from city life. Its meticulously maintained gardens, featuring vibrant floral displays and ornate bedding, are a testament to the park's historical significance and ongoing care. The large, central lake is a focal point, attracting ducks and geese, and providing a scenic backdrop for leisurely walks. The park caters to a wide range of activities. Children can enjoy the well-equipped play area, while sports enthusiasts can utilise the tennis courts and bowling greens. The Victorian conservatory, though needing some refurbishment, adds a touch of historical charm. The large open spaces are perfect for picnics, dog walking, and general relaxation. West Park's mature trees provide ample shade and a sense of tranquility, creating a peaceful atmosphere. The park hosts various events throughout the year, further enhancing its appeal. While some areas might show signs of wear and tear, the overall maintenance is commendable. The park's accessibility and central location make it a popular destination for residents and visitors alike. However, during peak times, it can become quite crowded. The park's blend of formal gardens, recreational facilities, and natural beauty makes it a valuable asset to Wolverhampton, offering a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all. It truly captures the essence of a classic Victorian park, providing a place for recreation, relaxation, and...

West Park is vibrant, beautiful, therapeutic and relaxing. I've been for long walks with family and alone. It's also great when the fairs are on. I've been going to this park for many years and it's one of the best parks around in my opinion. 😍

I love looking at the swans and watching the ducks and cheeky squirrels. The conservatory is very nice to walk around and there is a pleasant tea room/shop area. Decent toilets although unsure why the light is a dark blue in the disabled toilet?

The Park is very well maintained and the trees and flowers are a joy to gaze at.

Would like to see some wardens as I saw someone who wasn't too friendly with his two dogs, shouting and swearing which was scary and unpleasant. Although a one off I would have liked to have seen or been able to contact a warden for help/assistance.

Overall it's a relaxing time out 😎

ps Been trying to no avail adding images of the swans, ducks and scenery but they will...

3 stars may seem a little harsh for this beautiful oasis in the heart of Wolverhampton however the park has suffered in recent years from neglect and as the local goose population spreads many of the footpaths are eternally covered in droppings, the lake is covered in algae all summer long and the grass verges have been stripped of nearly all their grass. Sadly too many locals are dumping carrier bags full of bread and seeds all over the paths and the geese, pigeons and gulls have made a real mess of this once great jewel in Wolverhamptons crown. The contractors are too slow to clear the paths and have given up stopping the dumping of stale and mouldy bread and as the neglect takes over so to the drunks. The park is becoming an oppressive place to visit particularly at dusk and it is a real shame. Still a lovely place to visit but no longer a place to linger.
