ALDI is my first stop on any major grocery day. I like this particular location because across the street there is a Hispanic food market which makes it possible to buy items, such as soup bones, high quality heavy cream and whole cumin, not found at ALDI. I'm always pleasantly surprised at the selection of organic food items. The Never Any line they have is pretty impressive, which eliminates fillers, by products, preservatives, coloring agents, etc. 100 dollars spent well at ALDI will feed a family of 4 for two weeks, which brings me to my next point - Basics are DIRT cheap. As of yesterday 12 Eggs are still under a dollar, a gallon of whole milk is still 2 bucks, OJ (not concentrate) is 2.50, butter is under 3 bucks, brick cheese is 1.50, nitrate free lunch meat is 2.50.
Yesterday they had half price trays of meats - got over 2lb of chicken tenders for 1.70 and a chuck roast for 3 bucks.
One word of advice, which IMO you should do anyway, try to use any fresh produce from Aldi asap. It tends to go bad much faster than grocery chain produce. For example, potatoes and onions (kept in the dark and away from each other) sprout in about a week.
This is an establishment where you need a loose quarter to receive a cart. You insert the quarter on the handle of the cart and it detaches from the rest of the carts. DON'T FORGET A QUARTER or you'll be the Walking Dead in the parking lot begging people to switch out your 5 sticky nickels for a shopping cart.
FINALLY make sure to bring your own bags or boxes for bringing your groceries home. ALDI does not bag your groceries for you.
Try not to get offended if your cashier doesn't treat your products gingerly like other places. I get the impression that if they could use a pushbroom or better yet a bulldozer to get your stuff in your cart all while wearing a look of bemused disinterest, they would. Literally every single can you have will be dented. I'm pretty sure it's company policy to punch or kick every item you purchase on its way into your cart, since every ALDI cashier since 1995 has done this.
Hey, it's worth it when you walk out with a months of food for 90 bucks in 2017. So... 5 stars anyway. I wish we had one in Bensenville instead of a bunch of liquor stores and...
Read moreThis Aldi is laid out like all the others and has similar stock and features. It was just renovated last year and is very bright and clean inside. Whenever I go, everything I need is in stock. The vegetables and fruits are well-stocked and in good condition--in fact, the veggies/fruit here look a lot more appealing than the stuff at Jewel for about a quarter of the price. Like most Aldis, this one has only a couple lanes open at one time. Sometimes the lines get long, and for people who have never been to an Aldi, that might seem like poor service. However, the cashiers are SO FAST that the line moves much more efficiently than a shorter line at a traditional grocery store. I also like packing my own bags because at regular stores I either get someone who wants to put each item in one bag, or someone who thinks meat and Windex belong in...
Read moreWent on Saturday June 28 @11:57 A.M. to buy a few things. Went to the cashier with the lit sign to get checked out with nobody in line and was told to use a self checkout which I never used before. I was having trouble scanning the products and the young snarky girl came over and said I was doing it wrong. I told her I never used automated checkout before and purposely went to the cashier but she was evidently closing since she pointed me to an automated checkout line but she said "I was not closed." So why did she direct me to the automated line? Either she had a personal vendetta against me or she was just plain lazy and should have stayed home that day if she did not feel...
