I had to put my 11yo Pitt down a yr ago February 20, 2018. She had a lot of health issues that couldn't be treated due to side effects of the medicine and one or more of her conditions. I wasn't really interested in getting another dog after Kilo died because it was just too painful to think about since less than a year before her death I had to put my 12 yo Pomeranian Dominique down due to untreatable illnesses. When I walked in the door at the SCAC on March 7, 2018 I wasn't looking to take a 🐕 home. I asked the fella at the front desk if I could look at the dogs and he said sure and told me where to go to see them. I opened the door and quickly glanced over the row of 🐕 in kennels and nothing happened. I kept feeling drawn to the other side of the kennels and I felt compelled to just go to the far end of them. I barely looked at the other kennels because I was being pulled to go to the end of them. As I got closer to the end of the row I stopped one kennel from the end. When my eyes and hers met I knew she was going home with me. I knew nothing about her but that she was a Pitt, what I did know was that she was going to be my 🐕. I have since found out that she is a Blue Pitt. One of the volunteers leased her and we went outside and played fetch for a bit and when I left I asked what time they closed? I even had a name for her, "Lucy" (she must like it because I was calling her by it while we were outside and she came to me when I called her). I told them I'd be back with my husband to see her and take her home. I sent my husband a text before I left telling him I had found my 🐕. I was afraid someone else might take her before I got back but she was still there 2.5 hrs later. I'm a firm believer that God puts you where you need to be when you need to be there. This poor sick 🐕 needed us to rescue and love her as much as we needed her to be in our family to love us and bring us joy. God knew we needed each other. The first few days we had Lucy when my husband left for work she would cry and I swear it sounded like she was saying "but I love you, but I love you." Almost as if she thought he wasn't going to come back for her. No matter what time it is when he goes out the door Lucy sits or lays in front of it waiting for him to come back in. She sits on his lap and puts her nose under his chin and flips his head back then puts her head under his chin and just sits there rubbing her head under his chin, cheeks and his neck. It saddens me the pain and neglect Lucy endured that got her to SCAC but I'm so thankful that God sent me there that day. Lucy has taken her position in our hearts very seriously and shows us all she loves us, just as I know that she knows that we all love her and we will take care of her and protect her. At some point and time in her short life someone loved her. She's well mannered and knows basic commands. I love her so much, she makes my heart happy.
I would like to thank the volunteers and staff at SCAC for the love, attention and kindness they give to these poor sick and/or abandoned 🐕 and 🐈 every day. I'm sure for you when one of them gets adopted it's a bitter sweet moment, bitter knowing that you won't see them again yet sweet in that someone cared enough. I would love to post some pictures/video of Lucy so you can see how happy she is and how much she is loved. I'm hoping I can get them to post.

Read moreWe found a stray pit bull mix that was limping and bleeding, and the Summit Animal Control warden refused to pick it up despite letting him know that the dog was wounded and defenseless and was about to fall prey to other pit bulls next door. Since we just couldn't let that happen, we coaxed it in the car bleeding and everything. Needless today I was very afraid, but prayer worked! Hesitantly, he got in the car and we tried to take him to the Summit County Pound, but she refused to take him and rudely insisted that I pay to $25. When I didn't have it, she said that I couldn't leave him. I told her that he needed medical attention, but that was all I could do for him so I was letting him out there. She tried to threaten me by telling me to let him out across the street and not on the dog pound's property! Wow. I told her clearly we are the only ones who care about this dog. Her only concern was it being left on the property. She also threatened me that they were a government facility and there were cameras and she has my license plate! I couldn't believe it. The warden told me that if I could get the dog in the car to drop him off so I am not trying to hide from cameras, I am right in the open! I was betting that if I could just get him out of the car, someone there would have a heart and come help him. He was just pitiful. Beautiful, but all bitten up. Thankfullyafter several minutes, the worker said she would call the warden, but to no avail. She then said she would call the police and they would bring the dog in the facility. I waited and the officer who responded was 5 stars. He was patient and kind with the puppy to help coax him out the car. We got him out finally and he took him in the facility. I can only pray that the sweet little dog received the help and medical attention that he needed, no thanks...
Read moreWe came on Saturday July 15, 2017 bc they were having a special event to adopt vetted animals for only $10. We had lost our beloved Artimus in June and wanted a companion for our 3 yr old cat. Unfortunately we didn't arrive until about 2 or 3 o'clock and were told that they had about 20 kittens but all were adopted. We wanted a kitten bc we worried about our cat accepting a new buddy and prefer to have that life-long bond from as early as possible. As we were walking back to the parking lot, a young lady called us back to let us know they had JUST brought in a kitten if we wanted to see him. Of course, we went back in and found out he was a male (named Pepper) which is what we were hoping for, and a was a sweetie! It was so hard leaving him there until Monday so he could get his check-up and blood tests. We've had him almost a month now... I cannot believe we managed to adopt a perfect kitten! He climbed right in the litter box & used it no prob (even though he was young enough to be wobbly when he walked), he's snuggley & lovey - but also happily plays by himself. He sleeps through the night without bothering us at all. He is such a happy, confident and easy going kitten!!! We are so GRATEFUL to the young lady who chased us down! It was really busy that day and she didn't have to bother... I really want to say Thank You to her and, I believe, another woman who brought him (from another rescue possibly?)to the shelter. They were so kind, even with all that was going on, and let us spend some time with him. I really wish I would have asked where he came from and learned more about him. Hopefully, the young lady will see this and know that she made a huge difference in our lives, as well as the kitten we adopted. Maybe we will see her when we bring him in for neutering? Thanks again, Kristin Miller...
