Just want to start off saying that I love a good sandwich, they are one of the best things to eat when your feeling hungry. I am the type of person who loves a local owned sandwich shop rather than a big chain sandwich shop. So with that said my story on how I came to know about the Diamond Deli and how I made my way to finally eating at the Diamond Deli is a two part story. First the story starts about five months ago when my family moved to Ohio from Florida, my daughter was accepted to the University of Akron which was amazing on her part. So when we found out about my daughter's acceptance to the University of Akron my sister in-law told me about this tiny little sandwich shop known as as the Diamond Deli which she said it was nestled in the heart of the Akron University area and that they offered some of the best handcrafted sandwiches know to mankind. She told me that the place was so legit that most days the line is out the door and that they were only open for a short period of time usually until about 4 pm in the afternoon. So if you didn't get there in time to get yourself one of their signature sandwiches you were missing out. So now that brings me to the second part of my story. About a couple days ago I started up a Door Dash Driver account so I could earn some extra money for my family. I was with my wife and we were Door Dashing in the Akron Ohio area when my wife and I were finding ourselves to be mighty hungry when our next order from Door Dash popped up and it was from the Diamond Deli which means it was destiny that we were to finally try one of Diamond Deli's sandwiches. We came into the Deli from the back entrance and the first thing I noticed was the decor of the shop. The decor was straight fire, there was sports memorabilia all over the shop, which was mostly Akron Zip stuff just awesome. The second thing I noticed was the massive chalkboard that had the menu written on it and all the sandwiches had really imaginative names. I ordered Amy's Sound of Music which is a sandwich that has Smoked Turkey, Muenster Cheese, Honey Mustard on grilled Italian bread. The sandwich was so yummy in my tummy, it was well toasted and all the flavors blend perfectly together it was straight fire . My wife took the build your own sandwich path and had them craft her a mighty tasty ham sandwich. The customer service that was provided to us was amazing and all the employees were very nice. They all knew their stuff when it came to crafting scrumptious sandwiches. The coolest thing from my whole experience at the Diamond Deli was that I noticed a tattoo on one of the guys making our sandwiches and that tattoo was the logo of the shop itself which shows the dedication they have for their sandwich shop. So if your ever find yourself in the Akron Ohio area near the University of Akron I highly recommend you grab yourself a sandwich from the...
Read morefor some reason, being born and raised in akron, i have never been to diamond deli. it wasn’t until after i had lived in west hollywood (a few blocks from canter’s in LA) and in the east village (a few blocks from katz’s in new york) had i tried this akron institution for the first time… and maybe that’s for a reason. the sandwiches i had were mind-blowing, perhaps the best i’ve ever tried. i’d like to say this is coming from experienced taste buds.
my sister and i came on a cold december day at lunchtime and the line was out the door. i was nervous about not having enough time to make the very important decision of which sandwich i was going to try, because the line ended up moving quicker than i had anticipated. we ended up going with the “billie’s belly pleaser” and the “charlie hustle”. we split both sandwiches between the two of us, obviously to enjoy the best of both worlds 😍
i’m not as good at describing food as other reviewers here, so i’ll skip going into too much detail. i will tell you that there was plenty of meat on the sandwiches, and the flavor was absolutely WILD. so so so delicious. and somehow without sounding strange, they were really juicy sandwiches which complimented the toasted rye bread. wow. just wow. we probably sounded so strange, just sitting there groaning with each bite. what a festive moment for my mouth!! lol. as another reviewer said, it’s probably good that i don’t live close by as i’d probably develop an unhealthy addiction to this place. there’s a reason they’ve been here for such a long time.
lastly, my sister warned me that the staff was “all business”, so asking questions was a no-no. as usual, my sister was wrong 😂 the folks behind the counter and register couldn’t have been more kind, even asking how my meal was. i’m so excited...
Read moreI ordered from their web site which was easy enough. Walked there to pick it up on site. When I got to the front door, a big line was already inside. We made our way to the front through the table section and learned five minutes later take outs were around the back of the building. After going back out the front door and circling around, we found the take out line where everyone stood did feet apart. Since there was already a huge line inside, the "take out" line was roughly ignored for ten minutes. When someone finally got around to checking on us (we were fourth and fifth), he checked the first one out and handed her the bag. Then there was another five minutes where no one checked on us. Finally someone came back over and got the guy in front of me. I quickly got his attention and said my name. He looked over to the right and handed me my bag. It seems it had been there for a while. My friend got his just after mine. Their food is pretty good. The point is, if you get take out pick up on a busy day, save yourself a lot of trouble and go around the back of the building but don't expect for them to pay attention to you unless you...
