Crab Cove is a large park looking out over the bay. Beautiful sweeping views of the bay area and some nice trails to walk along. There is a really nice visitor's center with some great displays, old photos, a video and a ton of local history. I had no idea there used to be an amusement park back in the day. There was a docent who was super-friendly and very informative. There are several picnic and barbecue areas with tables and barbecue pits. A few horse shoe pits also. There is a parking lot at each end of the park and currently bathrooms are closed due to covid. There was 1 port a potty in the parking lot next to the visitor center.

Rare gem! Friendly and knowledgeable staff. The center is clean and well kept. We stopped by on Wednesday during their feeding show and tell time, so it was really fun. A nice small beach and park are next to it. Many people walk or sunbathe on the beach. We had enjoyable walks there every time. There is also a path in the park for non-beach goers and people with dogs (need to be on leash). Some protected birds call the beach home, so dogs are not allowed. The center is also conveniently located near shopping and restaurants (5 min walk). You can get donuts and other goodies and have a nice pinic in the park.

The Crab cove visitor Center is part of the East Bay Regional Park District, and is located at 1252 McKay Av, Alameda, Ca 94501. The place is a kind place to visit and Discover some history, animals, fishes and plants that lives at the Bay area. Inside there objects, pictures, videos and a lot of things that shows how rich this place are. Addictionaly also there are the only one public bathrooms at the Alameda, everything clean and well done. I recommend it a visit there and also enjoy the beautiful view from the Robert W Crown Memorial State Beach.

The Doug Siden Visitor Center at Crab Cove is such a hidden gem in Alameda! It’s a wonderful spot for families, especially if you have young children who are curious about nature and marine life. Inside, kids can get hands-on experiences like experimenting with a microscope, examining shark teeth, and learning about local aquatic creatures in a way that’s fun and engaging.

The exhibits are thoughtfully designed to spark curiosity while keeping things accessible for all ages. There’s a great balance of educational displays and interactive elements, which makes it easy for children to stay interested while parents can enjoy learning something new too.

What makes this place even more special is how it connects the indoor learning with the outdoors. After exploring the center, you can walk right outside to enjoy beautiful views of the shoreline, tide pools, and even catch glimpses of local wildlife. It’s both an educational outing and a peaceful nature escape all in one.

The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about sharing the importance of the local ecosystem. Whether you’re a local resident or just visiting Alameda, this is a fantastic spot to spend an afternoon. Highly recommended for families, school groups, or anyone who enjoys learning more about the Bay Area’s...

We haven't actually stepped foot in the Visitor Center, but my family loves Crab Cove. Its just about the perfect beach for kiddos. The tide goes in & out slowly throughout the day, and you when the tide is in, you can walk along in the water up to about 2 feet with no waves and most importantly, no fear that the current will grab your kids. There are tiny crabs underneath the larger rocks in Crab Cove - kids love to look and hold the crabs. Definitely bring the sunscreen - even though it doesn't feel too hot with the breeze, there are definitely rays. Another plus is the big grassy area behind the beach - great to let loose or...
