The Doug Siden Visitor Center at Crab Cove is such a hidden gem in Alameda! It’s a wonderful spot for families, especially if you have young children who are curious about nature and marine life. Inside, kids can get hands-on experiences like experimenting with a microscope, examining shark teeth, and learning about local aquatic creatures in a way that’s fun and engaging.
The exhibits are thoughtfully designed to spark curiosity while keeping things accessible for all ages. There’s a great balance of educational displays and interactive elements, which makes it easy for children to stay interested while parents can enjoy learning something new too.
What makes this place even more special is how it connects the indoor learning with the outdoors. After exploring the center, you can walk right outside to enjoy beautiful views of the shoreline, tide pools, and even catch glimpses of local wildlife. It’s both an educational outing and a peaceful nature escape all in one.
The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about sharing the importance of the local ecosystem. Whether you’re a local resident or just visiting Alameda, this is a fantastic spot to spend an afternoon. Highly recommended for families, school groups, or anyone who enjoys learning more about the Bay Area’s...

Definitely bring the sunscreen - even though it doesn't feel too hot with the breeze, there are definitely rays. Another plus is the big grassy area behind the beach - great to let loose or...
Read moreCrab Cove is a large park looking out over the bay. Beautiful sweeping views of the bay area and some nice trails to walk along. There is a really nice visitor's center with some great displays, old photos, a video and a ton of local history. I had no idea there used to be an amusement park back in the day. There was a docent who was super-friendly and very informative. There are several picnic and barbecue areas with tables and barbecue pits. A few horse shoe pits also. There is a parking lot at each end of the park and currently bathrooms are closed due to covid. There was 1 port a potty in the parking lot next to the...
