If you are ever in Alameda. This is a must go. Bring a designated driver because you are going to leave here fat and happy, that is, unless you are a vegan needing attention every five minutes.
The bartender was amazing, food was amazing, owner still works here and is friendly and not jaded and amazing. The restaurant actually has a bus staff that keeps the tables appropriately cleared.
What we ordered:
Starting with our drinks: Plack Ties. Appetizers: the wings, dry rub, tasty, the count was only five so order a couple of plates. The chowder and other seafood dishes are California 5, but a New England 3 (sorry for the east Coast snobby statement)...but truly some of the best seafood I have had here in California. It truly, is equivalent to the high quality that you can get out of the restaurants in Bodega Bay.. Seafood medley...another excellent dish!
Experience:
So this was the right balance of: great food, great drinks, laughter shared with great friends created an all around great experience at this wonderful restaurant.
For me, this is what great dining is about.
Properly prepared food, a level of service and atmosphere that does not distract in any way from your ability to share the moment with great friends. 1400 delivers that standard!
So while I can't remember any of our main courses, I do remember that it was a great time, hot and tasty food, and more importantly we all had fun and it is now a place we will go every time that we are in town.
What we spent:
$300 for food and drinks which for 5 people in the bay area was extremely affordable and worth every penny.
Quick Tip:
This is not a restaurant designed to get you in, fed and then kick you out for the next paying customer.
This place provided the perfect atmosphere to bring your close friends, people that you actually like. so enjoy the atmosphere, share some good conversation and make fun memories.
The wait staff was slow, but not unattentive, they stay out of your way to give you enough time to relax and enjoy your friends, enjoy the experience, and not feel like they're waiting for you to get off their table. Which I really appreciate.
So, order all your apps/meals together at one time, bring your best chatty friends and sit back and enjoy the experience... This is not the place to bring a high maintenance friend who needs constant attention, besides do you really enjoy that person?
It's easy to navigate this.... Simply think about what you want and need, then order together. Order your drinks together, order your apps together, get another round of drinks....together, order your meal together.... I think you get the picture. Then sit back, enjoy the great food your wonderful friends share stories laughter and...
Read moreHorrible service from the owner today... He just has no graceful way to interact with people, he's like a sledgehammer... Employees must be losing their minds from him being there all the time... They don't have turkey sandwiches there but they made one anyway for my 3-year-old with roasted turkey....Oh, horrible and he charged me $15 with fries, on sourdough with lettuce and tomato, fries ....the same price for my fried Chicken sandwich, which also was unedible. The chicken was pounded thin, like chicken fried steak...and the Dutch crunch bread was stale, and burnt. We wanted pizza, but they don't serve it till after 4p...?? This is what happens when you have a well-known restaurant, on a delightful corner... You don't have to do much, the money just comes in, and you don't have to do anything new, or keep up with quality control... You sit around drinking and living off all the regulars, who can't tell when an upgrade is needed. Go home owner, the money will be there the next day. You got my $30 while I slept, on what could be an...
Read moreI have never in my life had such rude servers. I have been in the service industry for over 10 years and there is no scenario that I could ever imagined that could justify how we were treated.
I went in with a small group of coworkers for causal holiday drinks and we were met with disrespect and hostile service after I had called and told them we were planning on coming in prior to the date. Not only did they make us feel unwanted and uncomfortable they had the audacity to ask a Veteran and Senior citizen to get up out of a 2 top table that we had clustered around so they could seat it for dinner when our bar tab was well over $200. It’s one thing if they need the table but it’s another to be rude to paying customers who are trying to support a local business.
We were a neighborhood company and we not only will never be back but I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for an establishment to support in Alameda and to choose one that treats their customers, Veterans, and senior...
