As a local guide, I try my best to be fair in my reviews regardless of how I am treated. I haven’t posted reviews in a while because I have relocated from Phoenix, AZ to Fairbanks, AK. First, I must be isolated and living in a glass bubble in Fairbanks because everyone goes out of their way to be respectful and nice. This is my 3rd visit to Anchorage. While it’s definitely a different vibe, I haven’t had a negative experience with anyone until today. My mom is visiting me from Phoenix and she would even consider relocating because of how gracious, positive and polite the people are. When we left the store, she said, “wow, this is the first time I have seen anyone being so rude in Alaska. My mom wanted Strawberry Rhubarb. I asked the guy how much the pies were because I did not see the price posted anywhere. It started then…I could sense the negative energy. The guy at the counter was NOT friendly or customer oriented. Just so you all know, it’s $14 for a small pie. It seemed pricey but I thought, It’s Alaska and I have quickly figured out it cost more to produce here. I don’t mind paying more for good products. I saw a coconut custard pie. Omg, I love coconut custard. I tell him we will take a coconut custard too. I noticed that there was a lone pie on one side and three smaller pies on the other side of large pies. He pulled out the large pie. We were already discussing how we are going to share two smaller pies but he pulls a large pie out. I say, no, we want the small custard. We are up to $24. He sort of shrugs and puts the big pie back and grabs the lone custard. I look in the box at the lone custard and can see its sunk in a bit. I ask him if its fresh. He says its a day old. I say, well I would prefer a fresh one. He abruptly says, “you can take this one”. In my mind, I’m thinking, “Excuse me?”. I tell him well could you take that one off. I am not going to pay the same price for a pie that looks more than a day old to me. I know custard. Its my favorite. He then goes on to tell me that when I come back that I need to know that its first in, first out and that is his discretion. I say, “ok, I didn’t know, I’m visiting and I doubt I will be back.” He takes the pie away but does not correct the price on the register. I say, “could you please take that one off. He corrects it. I go to pay. I thought I would need to use the pen to sign because I have been signing for my other purchases around Anchorage today. He grunts, “what are you doing!!”. Sort of scared me..like is this guy on the edge or something. What is his problem? I don’t know, just seemed as if he has an ax to grind. I try my best not to assume that everyone is racist that is angry. Perhaps, he was having a bad day but he was too rude to be selling food. I actually lost my appetite for pie. We still purchased one when I could have just walked out the store . The Strawberry Rubarb pie was fine. I liked the crust. It would have tasted better if the customer service was better. My experience was tainted. I won’t patronize again. It’s a shame because its the only place so far in Alaska that I seen a Coconut Custard pie. The shop was clean and organized. Tread lightly is all I can say if you go in there and sense its a negative space. Turnaround and save your positive energy. Go get cake. If the guy responds with anything other than an apology, he also has no integrity.

A Pie Stop is locally owned, they bake fresh each day, everything is unbelievably tasty...so why am I alone here? The rent is $4000 a month, doesn’t include utilities, that’s a lot of pies. Time for everyone to become a customer at this grandfather/granddaughter operation. Steve bought the bakery for Alisa when she graduated from the Anchorage School District’s King Career Center Culinary School a few years ago. Steve said he knew Alisa was passionate about baking since she was 4 and helped he and his wife when they ran the Chokecherry Inn in Fairbanks. She was also a regular at UAA’s summer Culinary Camp program. All her training amply readied her for this business venture. A Pie Stop rotates 27 varieties of pies, savory/cream/fruit, 6 days a week and offer local tea and coffee from Indigo and Caffe D’arte. Everything here is made with love and the aroma alone is worth the trip. They donate often to school auctions and nonprofit events and the great word of mouth about this place is spreading. But after four years building the business under the current ownership, with Steve pretty much volunteering, they would appreciate your patronage!

Sorry I did not say anything because everyone has different opinions and should experience things by themselves. Went here this past winter right before Christmas. The pie crust taste just like the ones you can buy at the store. The pies also taste like something you'd eat off a can filled with sugar. I had high expectations given the previous reviews. The atmosphere was pretty dull when we went. The place could use some cleaning and the person handling the pies should probably wear some gloves if they're not going to have clean hands (I say this from wat was observed when i visited). The "lousy side picture" is because I passed by and remembered I didn't leave a comment about this store. Have a nice day!

This place is very interesting to say the least

So, let me paint a picture of my experiences last week. It's a Friday evening and I just ate my dinner of week old meatloaf and a block of Parmesan cheese (have to clean out the fridge before we get rats again). It was quite the assault on my palate to be honest and at that moment i knew i really wanted some pie.

I checked out some local pie shops and saw that while this one doesn't have the best service, it's pies are supposedly pretty good. Normally I would find a pie shop thats a bit further but I had to sell my car to pay for my baby momma's boyfriend's playstation i may or may not have broken (i'm not admitting guilt in case this is admissible in court)

I walk into the door, kinda sweaty, but checking out the menu i immediately got hungy. I waited in line for legit minutes, and the whole time I could see the guy at the front counter eyeing me up and down, like he was a cheetah and I was the gazelle he was going to pounce on.

when it was my turn to order i could obviously see the look of disgust on the mans face. I felt a bit uncomfortable but decided to order the classic apple pie, and let me say. This was the best apple pie i have ever tasted. I cleaned the whole plate. I actually had a second slice as well. This was not the issue.

The issue is when I got up to leave, I waved to the man at the front and said "that pie was great and i'll be coming back, but maybe next time you can add a cream pie to the menu. I'm dying to try your cream pies"

All of the sudden this old guy pretty much hops over the counter and gets face to face and basically says i have no cake and he would not clap. Ive never been so distraught. I didnt even know they sold cake.

Pie was 10/10 i just wish old people would stop making me cry in public. Also his breath was way too pepperminty. Like he swallowed a tube of double strength toothpaste. I would definitely go again but i guess i'll have to bring some cake in exchange for pie? maybe working at a pie shop makes a man wish for cake. who...

Yesterday I talked to what I thought was a pleasant elderly gentlemen and ordered two personal pies. I was to pick them up "around" 3:00 pm this afternoon. I was twenty five minutes early. I went to the counter told a middle aged man who I was and why I was there. He abruptly said 3:00. I said, what? He rudely and abruptly said 3:00 or get one out of the case. I asked when they were baked, hesitation, then rudely YESTERDAY. I told him I'd take them. Went to pay, he started to ring me up and I told him I'd already paid when I ordered. Can't use that, I need cash or a card. I went out to get my wallet. My granddaughters came with me because I was upset at his tone and yes rudeness. We went back in big mistake. I told him he was rude, an even bigger mistake. He went off, denied being rude, and I told him to just ring me up. He tossed my $16.00 change basically in my face. The elderly gentlemen enters a few seconds later, I was relieved he says what's going on, and I said he's rude. The rude man throws his hands in the air and says, I'm rude, I'm rude, I'm rude. The elderly gentlemen tells me to get out and never come back. No problem there!! As we were leaving, my young granddaugter said, "You have issues". The elderly man said F... Y..! Get out. I should have read all the very negative reviews before I ordered regarding the terrible rudeness and disrespect this establishment spews towards its customers. I'm no Karen, sir. I'm a 73 year old grandma trying to pick up a pie for my visiting granddaughters birthday. Your pies may be good, She hasn't tried it, but your horrendous customer service will eventually run you out of business....
