Omg this place is everything! I was traveling in Anchorage for two weeks and ended up coming here at least 4 or 5 times — that’s how good it is. We mostly came for breakfast and lunch, and it quickly became a staple for us during our stay. As a vegetarian, I was so happy with how many options there were — not only plenty of choices, but everything felt fresh, healthy, and made with care. The food was consistently delicious every single time. The vibe of the café is also just perfect: cozy, cute, and modern without being pretentious. It’s the kind of place where you feel good hanging out for a while. The staff was always welcoming and kind, which made the experience even better. Honestly, I could not recommend Middle Way Café enough if you’re in Anchorage — whether you’re looking for a great meal, healthy options, or just a place to relax, this is the spot.

MUST try their GF DF carrot cake cupcakes. Amazing. Wait time On food and coffee will Be unreasonably long usually. Sometimes the food is super amazing and sometimes you’ll have to ask them to remake it. We’ve been coming here for 18 years and still love it even when it can be bad sometimes. In anchorage this is my favorite cafe as they have amazing options and the best hot beverages. However: the gluten free cookies and cupcakes and other treats they have are absolutely the best in town. They have different GF treats whenever we go. I love their selection. If only other places had such amazing gf treats. Not sure about their food options. Their matcha latte and coffee are just bomb. Service is either amazing and lovely or some atitude depending on who you get. We usually the the lovely people!

We decided to try out Middle Way Cafe while in Anchorage and WOW was it amazing! The outdoor area is perfect for dogs! The food was fantastic! My daughter and I each had the B.A.L.T.O. Sandwich on toasted gluten free bread. They give you two sandwiches each! It was perfect to eat one there with the great chips & homemade salsa and then have the other sandwich for later. My son-in-law had the Reuben on sourdough and he loved it, as well. We also had some yummy desserts…the snickerdoodle cookie sandwich, gluten free raspberry cupcake and the gluten free/vegan Linzer bar. I highly recommend eating here and bringing your fur friend with you. Just be sure you have someone with you to sit outside with your pup while you go in to order.

-The middle of the way to disappointment-

Ah, Middle Way Cafe, where the only thing consistent is the mediocrity! Where do I even begin?First off, the staff. I’m not sure if I was at a café or a funeral, because the level of enthusiasm was truly dead. It felt like we were pulling teeth by ordering —very painful, and no anesthesia in sight!

Now, onto the food, if you can call it that. How does a simple sandwiches for for two people end up costing over $30? For that price, I expected Gordon Ramsay to serve it personally. Oh, and don't even think about asking for salsa with your side chips—unless, of course, you enjoy paying extra to avoid the thrill of eating dry chips. Yum!

Speaking of sides, when you ask for bread three times, you’d think it would eventually materialize in the correct form. But no! One sandwich was served on the wrong bread after our “intense” negotiations, while the other apparently went on a bread strike altogether—bare, sad, and missing half the ingredients. At least we got creative with the plating, right? Wrong.

Let's talk about the wait. We might’ve discovered the meaning of life in the time it took to get our food—if only we weren't so busy starving to death.

All this waiting, only to be told they’re out of soup… at lunch… on a weekday. It’s like going to the desert and finding out they’re out of sand. The cherry on top? The register staff, who apparently attended the "Selective Hearing 101" class, took our order as if they were on another planet. I said no tomatoes; they heard, "Please ruin my sandwich and day." Both orders came out late and wrong, with an impressive level of indifference.

In summary, if you enjoy paying top dollar for mediocre food served late by staff who clearly do not care, Middle Way Cafe is your place! As for me, I think I'll start packing my own...

Upon arriving at Middle Way, my partner and I were filled with great hope. The extensive array of vegan options promised a delightful dining experience. Unfortunately, reality did not quite meet our expectations.

Our meal began with a burrito, a staple that, regrettably, contained uncooked rice. This fundamental flaw turned each bite into an unpleasant ordeal, overshadowing the otherwise well-conceived ingredients.

Next, I ordered a 16oz coffee. This seemingly simple request turned into a frustrating experience. The self-service nature of the coffee was not communicated, leading to an unnecessary wait of thirty minutes. When I finally approached the coffee station, it was disheartening to find it empty, with no effort made to replenish it. The remnants that filled my cup were far from satisfactory.

Hoping to salvage the meal with dessert, I opted for both the brownie and the pumpkin muffin. Alas, both were disappointingly dry, lacking the rich, moist texture that one would expect from such indulgences.

Despite the café not being particularly busy on this Tuesday afternoon, each order took an inordinately long time to arrive. This inefficiency further dampened our experience and left us yearning for the promptness one might expect in such a setting.

In conclusion, while Middle Way boasts a charming ambiance and a commendable variety of vegan options, our visit was marred by several notable disappointments. With attention to detail in food preparation and improved communication and service efficiency, this café has the potential to shine. I hope to see these improvements realized...

Title: Disappointing Service Overshadows Decent Food at Midway Cafe

I visited Midway Cafe today with high hopes of enjoying a delicious meal, but unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Despite the decent quality of the food, the abysmal service overshadowed any positive aspect of my visit.

Upon arrival, I eagerly placed an order for an omelette, only to find myself waiting for over an hour before it finally made its way to my table. What made the situation even more frustrating was witnessing ten other customers who arrived after me receive their orders ahead of mine. This blatant disregard for fair service left me feeling neglected and unimportant as a customer.

The lackadaisical attitude of the staff was evident throughout my visit, as they seemed more preoccupied with socializing amongst themselves rather than attending to the needs of the patrons. The overall inefficiency and disorganization of the service staff created a chaotic dining environment that greatly detracted from the dining experience.

While the omelette I eventually received was decent in taste, the long wait and poor service had already soured my impression of Midway Cafe. It is disappointing to see a place with potential in its culinary offerings fall short due to such glaring service deficiencies.

In conclusion, I cannot recommend Midway Cafe to others based on my recent experience. Until significant improvements are made in the service department to match the quality of the food, I will be hesitant to return or endorse this establishment to...
