Here are the 3 reasons why I suggest you avoid TOP BOP on Minnesota: Price/ portion ($$$$$) Quality (Like the dollar store opened a restaurant) Service (Not good)
If you work hard for your money and do not want to feel like you have been swindled by a third-rate restaurant, do not go to Top-bop.
Price: Holy cow, this is very expensive for what you get! I brought my family here for lunch and we spent over $90 for 4 Bowls (with a 10% tip). It is $17 for a large bowl, and they charge $3 for two dumplings/gyoza. This would be fine (I suppose) if the food was excellent, which it is not.
Quality: The quality (in my opinion) is not good. The spicy pork bowl was 50% large pieces of jellied pork fat. The rice was soggy, and the egg looked like it had been cooked days ago. The Kim Chee tasted like cabbage that had the juice from a left-over Kim Chee container poured on it, it was weak (also $4 for a little cup!). You can tell that everything that you are consuming is low quality ingredients, like if the dollar store opened a restaurant.
Service: They solicited tips at check out. I enjoy tipping for good service and good food, which unfortunately was not my experience here. I wrongly assumed that they would bring the food to your table (like they do at Charlie’s Bakery, a far superior restaurant in every way), but they do not. They do not even clear the table.
It is rare that my experience is so bad that it makes me feel shame for parting with my money, but my family’s visit to Top Bop really made me feel like I had been ripped off (because I we paid SOOO much for such subpar food). I would also be ashamed to solicit a tip with the same service format as any other fast-food restaurant (place your order and pick up at the counter, throw away your own trash).
There are many excellent alternatives in Anchorage, for less money, and far superior quality and service. Even fasting (starving yourself/ going without food) for the evening would be a good alternative to...
Read moreI'm conflicted. I used to Love everything i got here and tonight I didn't even look at the menu. I just ordered what I used to get. Beef Bop bowl with teriyaki, with 2 dumplings and I gor the chicken katsu in the rice bowl as an extra treat. I guess things changed in my absence. The Beef Bop bowl doesn't seem to have Romaine or broccoli anymore, just cabbage and the tiniest sprinkling of carrot shreds. And half the volume of Rice has been replaced by what looks like Udon noodles that are SATURATED in the teriyaki.. Their motto is "Have a Rice Day! - maybe they should change that. Also noted they don't use their Logo branded bowls, they were plain white bowls.. cost cutting, I guess. - Onto the chicken katsu rice bowl. The chicken was fine, as I remembered.. but the saturated udon would have been a welcome respite in all the dry, chewy rice and the much larger chunks of cabbage. There was a barely noticeable drizzle of the teriyaki sauce on top of the chicken, which was no where enough to make any connection with the rice.. I ended up throwing out most of the rice and cabbage. Plain white rice with shards of purple cabbage - not a great combination. Will I go back? If I do, I will be changing my regular order and adjust my expectations. It's just not the Top Bop it used to be. IYKYK. Atmosphere - they play upbeat modern music in the shop but wow - I never noticed how shabby the painting and decor was in there. Paint chipping and generally poor workmanship in the front of house. Guessing they did not have the work done professionally. I don't mean to sound elitist but Atmosphere is one of the items to be scored.. The people were nice and upbeat and the service was quick. Service got my highest score. Top Bop - i will miss you but you will live on if only...
Read moreI love the food but they lost my business today. I went there today (covid season) for lunch and there was a girl making the food with no gloves on. THERE WAS AN ENTIRE BOX OF GLOVES NEXT TO HER. Keep in mind that workers were wearing face masks, there was hand sanitize on the counter, it was clean and the seats were up so there was no inside dinning. Following city guidelines for sure. Back to the gloves....... I asked the front cashier (male) if they wear gloves when they prepare food. He said yes. I asked why the girl preparing the food wasn't wearing any? She heard me and turned around and said that she washed her hands. This didn't sit well with me because there was an entire box next to her. I said that i would like to talk to the manager. The cashier said that she (the one making the food with no gloves) is the manager. I said I would like to talk to someone above her. The general manager came out. I asked about why there was an entire box of gloves next to her and she was making customers food without them. He looked at me probably for an entire minute with a blank look. Then he said...... There is a shortage of gloves due to covid and they are expensive so they are rationing gloves and are washing hands. What the actual f**ck?!?!? Ok, if you cant afford gloves, why are you in business?? I didnt eat lunch there and will never be back. CANT AFFORD GLOVES AND POOR MANAGEMENT NOT THE BUSINESS TO BE IN FOR A FOOD...
