Buffet's Candy, almost all home made candies and chocolates, is the BEST CANDY in the USA. (Better than See's nationwide; better than Marshall Field's in Chicago area). I have been going to Buffet's for over 40 years, as my parents lived 2 streets over and 3 blocks up from their one and only store, with the HUGE STRIPED CANDY CANE IN FRONT. They have filled chocolate creams, both light and dark chocolate options. Try their Tango Mints, just a tad better than the old Marshall Field's Frango Mints in Chicago area. In addition, their pinion and other nut selections, green chile and just plain chocolate selections, are delicious!
Around various holiday's, Buffet's has specially made items, such as for Easter - various sized easter eggs, both in solid chocolate or not (they weigh each candy for pricing), both covered in either milk or dark chocolate; and filled various sized eggs such as walnut, fudge, maple, raspberry, and so many other flavors. Again both milk and dark chocolate offerings. Because you may buy any quantity you desire, they use a great "marking system for each egg flavor", ie., a little rose for one flavor, little ducks, little daisy's, etc., for other flavors. They include a little handout to put in your bag of goodies in case you forget which filled eggs you are buying. They do various themed chocolates to fit most holidays, such as Valentines, Christmas, Halloween/Thanksgiving, 4th of July, St. Patrick's Day etc.
Buffet's has the nicest staff to help...almost are are Grandmothery types. They will wrap your boxed purchases, good selection of wrapping papers too, whether a birthday gift, a thank you gift, whether a man or a woman gift.
Buffet's was started by George Buffet (a cousin of Warren's), in 1956. Mr. Buffet died several years ago, but his daughter Patty who has been working there forever, has taken over the reigns....you would never know Mr. Buffet is no longer with us...quality and service just the same. Patty has added so many other offerings, too much to state....go in and check out the BEST CHOCOLATE AND CANDY STORE IN THE USA!!! I promise, you will be do happy you did, just fun and delicious!!! Oh, and they give you a little sample on your...
Read moreThe candy it beautiful and delicous. I love the seasonal color options. They are incredibly kind with great customer service. They even offered us a sample of the seasonal “pumpkin spice truffle,” which was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, for a place that highly markets piñon candy options, they did NOT have piñon candy apples. We had to go to chocolate dude for piñon candy apples.
Buffet’s $8.50 pecan deluxe apples were fresh and tasty, not as beautifully displayed and presented as chocolate dude. Sorry for the comparison. They are the two locally Albuquerque grown, owned, and operated candy stores in Albuquerque nearest to us, besides the candy lady, which is a bit further away.
The total for two deluxe candy apples, a bag of Halloween gummy worms, chocolate covered sunflower seeds, and white chocolate piñon bark came out to $35. I will come back for the white chocolate Piñon Bark and the seasonal-colored candy, but I’ll stick to chocolate Dude for my candy apples; at the same price I can have a piñon candy apple option and a more flavorful caramel (I don’t know if it’s because they layer on the caramel thicker).
Overall, we have come here for years and have always been delighted with their consistent tasty sweets that have New Mexico themes and designs.
When we hosted guests from out of town (before the COVID-19 pandemic) or when we sent gifts to family from out of town, I always stop here to buy New Mexican designed chocolates. They also add a beautiful touch to gift baskets.
We will be back as always for their great customer...
Read moreWell this chocolate has a deeper flavor. I think they use Guittard Chocolate which is a special 145 year old brand. When you eat this chocolate the flavor lingers for a while after. That's how you can tell if it's good chocolate. They have so many different choices of centers nuts creams etc but they are famous for their pinons. It's a pine nut pronounced "peen-yawng" The perfect Pinon is very expensive and they go to great lengths to choose from just the right crop for their famous pinon chocolates and pinon rolls. They use brown sugar in theirs. They have pinon brittle and pralines as well. I noticed lots of fun chocolate themes. So many to choose from. I had them ship my brother a chunk of milk chocolate shaped like a truck. They handed out tiny samples and I had one of each kind, Of course in New Mexico you are going to have chili with just about everything so some of the varieties had a spicy flavor which sneaks up on you. Some of their recipes are 50 years old like the caramel corn and the brown bear crunch which is chocolate over caramel corn. It reminds me of moose munch a Harry & David best seller but here they use real butter. Oh they are sure to tell you the owner is related to Warren Buffett. I was secretly hoping for Jimmy. South of the Coronado Mall on Lomas just off Louisiana, it's not where I travel on a daily basis but I would make a run for this...
