I actually do like this part. I attended the central New Mexico Community College main campus just around the corner from this location. I do enjoy when I would do my tai chi exercises out here during the afternoons. I like hearing the sound of children playing in the playground, and people just doing their normal thing. I was informed that they have a frisbee golf layout for those of you who like to play Frisbee golf. There is a lot of grass everywhere, it is a huge park with lots of trees, and there is plenty of parking. They have benches, and picnic tables here and there. They keep it picked up as far as I could tell. I do not mind the people smoking marijuana over there so much as I do the homeless that will come and bother me for money, or food. I volunteer my time at a shelter for the homeless. I definitely feel for the homeless. I am just tired of them always bothering me for money. I am 100% blind, and I live on a fixed income. You should not be asking disabled people for money. Other than that as long as you get out of that area before it gets dark you are fine. Do not, and I repeat this, do not stay there after dark. The area is very nice during the daytime, but takes on an entire new atmosphere once the sun goes down. Do not be around there after dark unless you are familiar with the streets. The change is a drastic one. A time is quite beautiful / nighttime...

Read moreThis is a famous park nationally and historically for many things. Two notable incidents are.... One was the starting place of the ninth most expensive riots in America. June 13, 1971 Albuquerque Police shot nine Mexican American youths in an attempt to break up a crowd that had formed when they were trying to arrest one youth. It sparked 500+ Mexican American outraged youths to descend upon the downtown area causing serious damage. Estimated 3 million dollars around the park area and 17.5 million in the Downtown area. In 2022 this equates to about $142,309,481.48. The 30 hour riot ended with the National Guard getting involved and 600 arrests. It's rumored name at the time was called the "Chicano Hill" riot. The second reason is in 1992. Famous rap singer MC Hammer and crew were having a barbeque here while on tour and three of his crewmembers were shot. The unidentified shooter was reported to be either random or one of the crew it's self.
