To Any Veteran Considering CNM: Please Read This First
As a veteran who once attended CNM and now attends UNM, I feel it’s my responsibility to be honest with others who served and are now pursuing education. If you're planning to use your G.I. Bill or Montgomery Bill benefits at CNM, you need to know what you're walking into. The CNM Veteran Resource Center (VRC) is, frankly, one of the most dysfunctional systems I’ve ever encountered. Every veteran I’ve spoken to who went through their office has experienced the same thing I did: benefits take at least 2 to 3 months just to get submitted, let alone processed. For comparison, UNM has never taken longer than 30 days. This kind of delay is not just frustrating, it’s financially harmful. The entire purpose of the G.I. Bill is to relieve that burden. At CNM, you’ll likely be left paying out of pocket, taking out loans, or becoming behind on bills just to stay afloat. I personally had to borrow money just to cover basic living expenses. You’re treated like an afterthought, not a priority. The priority is always the work-study students, who get to submit their paperwork first. They receive both their work-study pay and G.I. Bill benefits while you sit, asking repeatedly where yours are. Somehow worse, the leadership at the VRC is nowhere to be found, literally. As someone who went to the gym regularly, I passed by their office often. The person in charge was never there. Staff openly admitted they hadn’t seen him and didn’t know where he was. This isn’t a one-time mistake. This is a pattern. Veterans are consistently neglected, misled, and left to fend for themselves. There was already an investigation in the past over how poorly the CNM VRC operated. In my opinion, another one is long overdue. I’ve personally reached out to my local congressional representatives to report this gross negligence, and I encourage others to do the same. To any veteran reading this: you deserve better. We all do. If you’re thinking about attending CNM, seriously reconsider, especially if you rely on your education benefits to get by. No one who’s sacrificed for their country should have to fight this hard just to be treated with basic respect and efficiency. We’re not asking for special treatment. We’re just asking CNM to do their job. Sadly, they’ve proven time and time again...
Read moreI will open up with a compliment saying it’s not close to the worst I’ve seen, But if I am to stay accurate, it is however the worst community college I’ve attended and I have attend several as a military brat. For one major reason that no one will be able to get past, Directions to the enrollment area/ student advisor office or to anything for that matter.
They have had construction going on for last several years ( painful when it’s already 100° outside to have to walk around construction barrier chain-link, and that’s been a several year process already )and they have not kept up with their Google maps or their Apple Maps, which is such an easy task to do for anyone, making it possible to receive your customers and yes, a school receives customers, they’re called students. And, when your job is to educate people and every year you have an entirely new group of people coming to your venue, it is just unacceptable to make it nearly impossible to get to enrolled if they haven’t got friends in school here to tell them how to get around. I speak from experience sitting in their parking lot ( the one google swore was there student services office) and having to try to call, then having to email there Student advisory department for an hour ( received no eventual response until the next day) sitting there waiting for even just a security guard or campus cops to drive by so I could ask them where the new building was since Google didn’t know and an hour later there was still no campus car or any campus help to be mentioned, so I left the campus, my appointment long since meeting time had past, defeated. The two stars symbolize the education that gets to the kids that need it at CNM I know they’re there. Just doesn’t happen to be me.
I don’t wanna have to say such negative things about a place. I do not take pleasure in it, but I do think it is my obligation to tell other students you will run into this problem as well. If you do not already know somebody at the school that knows their way around , you will not be able to find anything based on what Is online as far as driving search engines such as Google, Apple, etc. Or for that matter last time I checked any of the signage maps out around the campus were...

Who definitely do not get paid enough for what they're doing in fact the entire staff really is underpaid for what they do but as far as everything with the campus goes I would recommend that I would recommend that I would recommend looking up the website so you know where you're going if you're looking for something in particular you'll be able to find that rather easily through the website and you can also chat with someone if you need to. You can find help with everything from Career advancement job place manic cetera to next Saturday to financial aid and so on.
