Update: The owner of the franchise called me to talk about this review. He took ownership of the problem and offered to refund the diagnostic charge. I refused the refund because Nerds To Go did that work and earned that money, but I really appreciated him trying to find a way to make it right after the fact. I have a lot of respect for that and the phone call.

I took my computer to Nerds to Go to fix a problem with overheating. They diagnosed it, I approved the repair work, and asked for a full quote which they couldn’t provide immediately because they needed to do a bit of research. After a few days of silence, I called to get a status update, and was greeted by someone who did not do a great job on the phone.
I asked to speak with a manager, just to make sure that my computer was being taken care of and find out how much this was going to cost. The owner answered, addressed the problem, and promised to call me back.
A few minutes later, he did. I was quoted a bit more than $800 for the parts, and I can’t remember if there was any more labor on top. I was told it would take about a week or so to get everything in.
I approved the work again, but the negative customer service experience didn’t sit right. So, about 45 minutes later, I called back, cancelled the work, and told them I would get my computer.
Honestly, it wasn’t a big deal. How I was spoken to hurt my confidence a bit, and I knew there were many other computer repair options in the area I could take advantage of.
I picked up my computer, took it elsewhere, and that would have been the end of it. I had no intention of leaving a bad review, and even chuckled when I got a couple of automated text messages asking me for one.
However, that changed when the new place quoted me only about $200 for the repair work. Nerds to Go had told me things were wrong with my computer that the new place was able to physically prove false. And, as the cherry on top, I got my fully functional PC in less than half the time Nerds to...

Knowing full well that computer repair can be expensive, I did my due diligence and ran nearly every troubleshooting step I could find (including a new battery install) to no avail. I ended taking my laptop in because it was experiencing charging issues (it would recognize it was plugged in and wouldn’t drain further, but also wouldn’t charge).
after a clean wipe of the laptop dropped off to the store for diagnostics (paid the $59 fee), a few days later received a call asking follow-up questions about the issue and was told I’d receive a call back. I received another call the next day telling me my laptop was ready for pickup and it would be another $199 (standard fee for the work), they are kind enough to deduct the diagnostics fee from the additional charges.
I went to pick up my laptop the same day, I asked the technician exactly what work had been done to justify the $199 service charge (as no work had been authorized beyond the diagnostics). I was notified that the tech ran a battery calibration and updated the drivers (things that I had done prior to the wipe and would have done for free). The device still does not charge or charges inconsistently. Staff on duty was kind enough to give me an additional $15 off.
TL;DR - Staff were friendly but didn’t resolve the issues and charged a hefty price to...
