I’m sorry we gave this place our $23 for 2 flights. As we finished up our flights outside as their only guests remaining on a late Tuesday afternoon we discussed which bottles to buy. We headed for the front door excited to take some wine home with us to enjoy with friends and family. I pushed down on the handle to open the door and it was locked. I look at my watch only to discover is was 5:31!!!!. A woman came and cracked the door to grab the flight paddles. Then refused to sell us any bottles as they CLOSE at 530. They gave us NO notice, never came out to see how we were doing, or to ask if we cared to purchase anything before they closed down. What a horrible experience. Clearly this place has an over inflated sense of self worth and I have a hard time remembering a past experience of being so directly insulted by an establishment. I simply do not have words to describe how low you have to be to insult people like this place did us. This winery should be ashamed of their behavior, and may as well just shut down permanently if this is their attitude toward...
Read more100% recommend this place to anyone visiting the area who likes to drink. I'm not a big wine drinker, but my friends took me here. The three of us each did a different tasting of nine wines a piece, and we all shared, so we each tasted 27 wines. There were only two of the 27 that were too dry for my liking. That's pretty good for someone who's not too keen on drinking wine. Their cherry kirsche is amazing, and they have a cherry bounce that I didn't get to taste, but based on the kirsche, I'm comfortable buying an entire case without trying it first. Here's the best part, though: they don't just make their own wine. They make their own cider and liquor as well, and it's equally incredible. I visited from out of state, and I'm about to drop some serious money to have cases of their wine, cider, bounce, and kirsche delivered to me. Yes, delivered! They ship their wine and cider to a handful of states. Their laws prohibit the sake of liquor across state-lines, so you can't get those, but it's still...
Read moreI recently visited Von Stiehl on 8/6/24 and the winery is nice and they have some good wines in the older categories but very disappointed with their tasting policy if you purchase wines. I spend $548 on wine there and they didn't have the courtesy to waive the tasting fee. I have traveled all over the country visiting wineries and have never seen a winery that would not not waive the tasting fee if you purchased a bottle, 3 bottles, or a certain bottle count or dollar amount spent, almost all have guidelines around it. The tasting is meant to draw you in so you can sample wines and like some enough to purchase at their full retail price and give positive word of mouth. I will never go back to Von Stiehl again and should have told the employee to forget the purchase when he did not waive the nominal tasting fee. Other Door County wineries waive their tasting fee with a purchase, I bought at some other wineries as well. Poor business is all I...
