Harbor Inn Algoma — Hotel in Algoma

Got a six person room and the beds weren’t spread across the length of a long room like usual at hotels they were all set up in a small room making a square of beds with some room to walk in between, uncomfortable being so close to everyone. Then the room is dirty maybe half renovated seven years ago with some huge ancient AC in a hole in the wall. When it was time for bed we realized the pull out couch was just a normal couch, we told the desk when we could finally find her and she said there’s a rollaway bed we could get from storage (my husband had to help get it and set it up) the legs were bent on it and when my eight year old laid on it the springs were so worn he was about half an inch from the floor. That was supposed to be equal to the sofa bed that sleeps 2. No. My husband forgot his Milwaukee brand headlamp there, I called and they said they would look around we never got it back lol the owner seemed like a pretty shifty guy let’s just say I’ll never be back to this...

I made a reservation so my daughter & I could spend some time together, and I've never been to Door County. A conflict in our schedule came up, so I wanted to change the reservation to the next weekend. They were full, which is no big deal, but they charged me a non-refundable fee for the reservation I could not keep! It's not like I called last minuted. I called 2 weeks in advance. The VERY rude man (I think his name was Rainey...couldn't tell) said I could've cancelled 1 year in advance & he would still charge me. They very well could've refunded me the money, but greed and poor customer service seem to be more important. Luckily, I found another place to stay where the owners were more than happy to give me a great room for less money. And, they didn't charge...

I am only giving this dump a two-star rating because it has quick access to the lake and a beautiful view, other than that Harbor inn has nothing to offer. Our room was terribly musty smelling. The pillow cases smelled like body odor, and the shower curtain was moldy. Had there been another hotel with vacancies we would stayed some place else. I was told the staff would contact the owners and see what they thought was fair for discounts, after going back and forth with Randy(who was less than pleasant) the owners decided $40 off was fair, but they refused to speak to me or contact me themselves.
