Holy buttermilk donuts, Batman, where do I begin?
Move over, Derek Shepherd, the pricing at NWB is the true McDreamy. Like other college students my undergrad diet consisted of trash and the Taco Bell dollar menu. If there were a NWB franchise at my college campus I would have gone here to stress eat poppyseed kolaches during exam week or to binge eat those glazed pastelitos after ladies night at the piano bar. I understand that the cost of living in Wisconsin is considerably lower than that of my home state's, but all of the baked goods NWB offers are dirt cheap.
I swear each time I go to Algoma I spend a sum of money that rivals our national debt on NWB peanut squares, but that is not only because of their very reasonable pricing. Everything in that store is to die for it's so delicious. The last time I came back from a Wisconsin trip I was truly saddened that it would be some time until I could make another pilgrimage to this baked goods Mecca. I should attend AAA meetings to weaken my NWB addiction. If it were socially acceptable I would lick their floor because I'm sure it tastes like anything else NWB related tastes like--Heaven. Or a really good nap. Or fresh out of the fryer and golden cheese sticks. (I want to be inclusive of non-Christians.) Whichever religion you ascribe to, be it the Jesus one or the fried cheese one, try this place. You will never go to another bakery again.
As I am reaching the age where people start families I have thought from time to time about what I would name my children. Should I have a son, I will name him "Steve." Should I have a daughter, I will name her "Steve." You see not only would I be naming my children after national treasure and game show Steve Harvey but the name would also serve to commemorate the man who suggested I buy the buttermilk donuts. They are nothing short of outstanding. In fact, we should export North Water buttermilk donuts to the starving children in Africa rather than those prepackaged rice meals in order to spread joy to the less fortunate.
What makes Wisconsin different from down here is that everyone is so nice, and North Water is no exception. Down here people are crotchety because it's hot and Gator football is not as consistent as we would prefer (Go Gata). Up at NWB all of the employees are wonderfully pleasant because they work in a land of magic and unicorns and rainbows and peanut squares. The interactions I have had with the staff are like a warm hug. Seriously, are y'all clones of Mr. Rogers? How can everyone here wake up at the butt crack of dawn but deliver high quality customer service five minuets before closing?
I am only giving this place five stars because five stars is the maximum. I would give them 591 stars and my firstborn if I could. Whoever gave them less than five stars better go see your priest and confess because y'all have some repenting to do...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe absolutely loved working with Northwater Bakery for our wedding! Having been longtime fans of their dangerously delicious breakfast sandwiches, we knew their baked goods would be just as amazingāand they did not disappoint. We ordered a small tiered cake and a variety of cupcakes, and the flavors were an absolute hit. Our guests struggled to choose just one because everything was so delicious!
The desserts were so beautifully crafted that it almost felt wrong to eat them ā they were truly works of art. What stood out most to me was the honesty and care of the staff. They encouraged me to order less than I originally planned, warning that I would have more than enough ā and they were absolutely right! We had the perfect amount with little to take home (also purchased cupcake take home containers for guests to bring the cupcakes home - which many did).
Beyond the incredible taste and design, the Northwater team was a pleasure to work with. They did their own set up, which gave me such peace of mind on our wedding day. They were just as sweet and thoughtful in person as their cakes were to eat. I highly recommend Northwater Bakery to anyone looking for delicious, beautifully made baked goods paired with honest and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis bakery is a gem. The smell of fresh bakery items hit me as I walked in the door. The variety of donuts and other baked items including pies, bars, kolaches, peanut squares, and bread was impressive. Best of all, everything was labeled, a feature that is so rare in my area but much appreciated. There is also a cold case with local cheese and other items, as well as a deli, though we didn't try any of those items. Nice setting near the lake, and the woman behind the counter patiently waited while we surveyed the options, and provided more...
