My grampa Bill was the Chief Grounds Keeper of the Alhambra parks back in the day. He loved all those parks. The Alhambra Park was our favorite because he lived in a big gray house on Cedar Street nearby. The park was famous for having a real full sized military Jet fighter sitting in the middle of the lawn on the North side of the park. My brother and I used to climb all over that jet. One day when I was trying to squeeze through the engine compartment I almost became wedged in.. Whoa ! Scary. One day the jet just disappeared .. A big rock was in its place ... Hardly an even exchange .. lol .. The park is where I leaned to swim. There was a round shallow pool with a fountain in the middle ... One day after swim lessons (I must have swallowed some pool water) I threw up all over the place .. Green puke everywhere .. lol .. I'll never forget that day. The park had great covered areas to eat under. Great tennis courts and a great amphitheater for plays and live music ... Saw a few shows there over the years of my youth. It also had some great grassy hills to roll down .. I'll always think of my grampa Bill when I remember this park. He was funny, kind, talented and wise.. He was a BIG Dodger fan and he loved KFC ... Going back to the neighborhood brings back great memories. That park was a great place to take your family and the perfdct place to make memories that will last a lifetime. Thanks Alhambra for keeping that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is an extremely safe park with three separate parking lots, plentiful street parking, and easy pedestrian access all along the west and south sides.
The north end of the park borders the Almansor Golf Course and shares a large two-tiered pond full of ducks. The resident ducks have become so tame that they'll waddle and paddle their way up to you at the mere hint of food. I don't think you're supposed to feed them but I'd rather be gaggled than hear a kid's tantrum. Some of the ducks even have nests and eggs along the protected bank of the course side. Great place to bring kids as long as you make sure they don't start climbing the rocks separating the tiers.
The indoor gym hosts badminton and table tennis games in the evenings. The open air basketball courts are always packed with pick up jungle ball games from the afternoon into the night. The lighted tennis courts are especially busy at night. There's a recently remodeled jungle gym and play area for the kids between the tennis courts and the track. The three baseball fields have a little league or softball games running at all times. The rubberized track along the south side has a constant flow of walkers and the occasional runner. Each quadrant of the track has a permanent exercise station for stretching or body...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe park is great. I use it for the foam running track that's approximately a little over 1 mile. The other nice thing about this park is the late hrs. I usually come here when I have a long day at work and can't make it to my other preferred parks in El Monte or Montebello before sunset. This park is safe and is homeless and tweaker free. Mostly everyone at this park when attending the park is very active and doing some form of exercise. The park is also very clean in comparison to other parks. Not much littered trash scattered on the floor. The park and local community is predominantly Asian, therefore u know the park is going to be safer and cleaner than other communities. Why do u think I don't run in my own community after sundown? From the looks of it, the park has outdoor & indoor Basketball courts, Running course, Tennis Courts and exercise equipment that's scattered throughout the running course. The only draw back to the park is the overcrowding. When doing the running course most of the time I've got to get off trail to pass lots of people and that is constant. But the later u go the better it gets. Overall it's a great park that I highly recommend to stay safe and enjoy the fresh air after a long day at work. I almost forgot, the park has a medium sized lake with...
