Purple Construction Inc. — Attraction in Alhambra

Be wary of the sales tactics and pressure from Purple Construction. This review covers our experience while receiving quotes from Purple to re-roof our residential home. We felt uneasy about doing business with them due to the aggressive sales tactics and pressure we experienced the two times they came by to inspect and provide quotes.

We initially received a quote from Purple to replace the roof for our 1400 sq ft house. The initial offer was $43,000, which they eventually lowered to around $27,000 if we signed a contract immediately. The appointment took around 3 hrs, which included an inspection, a thorough explanation, and a negotiation/sales pitch that we did not care for since we weren’t planning to start until next year.

Representatives from Purple came by again 4 months later to discuss the job and insisted that they can offer a better price. A quick “5-10 minute look” ended up being a 1.5+ hr visit, once again with a long drawn out sales pitch and negotiation with their manager on the phone. Offer for contract signed that day: ~$35,000 reduced to $25,000 (with positive reviews and leaving a sign outside for 10 days).

Despite our repeated insistence that we were only interested in the quote at this time and would only consider their offer after checking with other contractors, they continued to apply sales pressure while simultaneously insisting that they were not pressuring us. Sparing the details of what was said, we felt disrespected by how we were treated and they lost our trust.

We prefer to do business with straightforward contractors who respect our wishes and let their offer (and their justifications) stand...

Maybe they can do good work. I'll never know, as I got totally turned off by these masters of the shyster sales method.

They knocked on my door, asking if we have any home improvement projects. I told their canvasser they can send their people today at two to bid on an exterior paint job.

When they arrived, they started asking questions about the age of the home, what remodeling we might have done, what we might need, and so on. I answered a few of their questions and politely let them know that while I have other upcoming projects, at this time I want a bid on the exterior paint only.

I provided them a detailed statement of work and told them I would consider any recommendations. They checked out the house, and they pointed out a few area that might need special attention and some alternatives to the details in my description of the work.

So far so good.

Then they said they want to set an appointment with me and my wife to go over the options and share pricing. I've seen this method before. It's a set up for high-pressure, high-cost options, and a special sign-right-now price. I advised them there is no need for such a meeting and I just need their price for the work as I specified it and for any alternate recommendations they have. Then they launched into why we need to sit down together, why my wife would have to be there, etc.

I gave them one last chance to quote the work, but it was their way or the highway. I chose the highway.

Totally wasted my time and...

Terrible Experience – Avoid This Company at All Costs!

We hired this company to renovate our kitchen, and the results have been an absolute disaster. The work was completed around March 2023, and not even a year later, our kitchen floor is already breaking and lifting. This is completely unacceptable for such a major renovation.

We initially dealt with María, who was consistently rude and unhelpful. After several complaints, she finally sent some workers to inspect the issue. They confirmed what we already knew: the floor was installed incorrectly. Despite this, María ignored our repeated calls and refused to take any responsibility.

When we finally managed to reach her, she gave us nothing but excuses and offered a laughable \$1,000 to "fix" the problem—an amount that doesn’t even come close to covering the cost of replacing a 24ft x 12ft kitchen floor. Then she told us something even more shocking: the company was disappearing. Since then, she has completely stopped answering our calls.

This company does shoddy work, takes no accountability, and treats customers with zero respect. Now we’re left to clean up their mess and are exploring other ways to hold them accountable. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this company. They are unprofessional, dishonest, and apparently vanishing to avoid...
