My wife and I recently took the Alton Underground Railroad tour. It was embarrassingly bad. The tour guide spent much of his time talking about topics other than the underground railroad. Most of what we learned on the tour came either from having to ask him basic questions or sharing information with fellow tour members. I would have rated the tour 1 star had it not been for the latter. Alton itself is an interesting city...

The tour of Pere Marquette State Park, the Great River Road, Elsah, and Principia College was excellent. Rod Jackson was our tour guide and very knowledgeable about the area.
