The spacious suite includes a large kitchen and seating area attached to a balcony with a panoramic view of the Mississippi river and the town of Alton. The rooms are well-appointed with decor to match the historic location. Many household amenities are included as well as a washer and dryer. The larger bedroom includes a relaxing air tub.
Service:
The owner, Mike Kelly, answered my request to make a reservation immediately. He made the booking process very easy. Check in and check out were all communicated through text messaging with keyless access so I could come and go as convenient.
Housekeeping:
The area was well-maintained and tidy with an open floor plan that made it very comforting.
Atmosphere:
This was my first trip to Alton and I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere on the river. The penthouse was very comfortable and made a great home away from home. The building is located near the casino and the square and many downtown attractions are within walking distance.
Conclusion:

Read moreOwner was incredibly kind. The studio (piasa loft) was beautiful and had everything you might need. We didn't use the washer or dryer or oven- but it was all available. The shower was very nice- good pressure- nice hot water. What I disliked and will make me unable to return- was the noise. Every step could be heard. The penthouse was above us. I listened to a woman walk back and forth in heels for hours and it started again at 7 a.m. It sounded like furniture being moved and loud thumps like kids wrestling. Just really unbearable. I always bring a fan from home to sleep and even on high, I could not drown out the noise. I got dressed to go upstairs and ask them to quiet down (half expecting a herd of elephants to be present) but I didn't see the entrance to get up there. It did lessen about midnight but overall the walls seem to be paper thin. Left early to get home and take a nap. Only other thing- the view is incredible- the glass doors face the balcony but beware- there are no blinds or shades or curtains and the outdoor area is accessible to all so don't try to get a glass of water in your undies- someone can be looking right in. Overall beautiful just wish it could have been more...
Read moreWe were looking for something on the river/river view, and if possible, historic. This place is an old, literally, cracker factory, on one of the main streets. Parking is easy, on street, and 4 rooms are on the second and a large suite is on the top floor. Our place was small, as we were just in and out, and that is what we requested, but perfect. The concept of the Crack Factory is for longer term visitors, but he welcomes overnight guests as well. There is a full kitchen, washer/dryer, sitting area with table for eating, bath with shower and bedroom with full closet. There is a lovely deck overlooking the river, although a bit set back, with a sweeping, gorgeous view. It was very comfortable and the owner let us put our bikes in the large unfinished space on the main floor. We grabbed dinner across the street and took it back to our room, due to covid. The next day we bought breakfast treats at the 3 blocks down the street, on Eric's recommendation, and it was delicious. Everyone we met was friendly and accommodating. The town is interesting and has a lot of...
