(No spoilers) I have done quite a few escape rooms across at least 3 states. We did the king maker and had a really good time. The story line is pretty engrossing and the room has a feel to it for sure. The guide (Chelsea) would offer hints when she thought we were falling behind but we could choose to take them or not. She would call on a radio, which is a lot better than other escape rooms where you get the hints on a screen, because here you don't have to break character as much. We finished this room with 49 seconds to spare, only with a huge help at the end from our six-year-old. It seemed like the difficulty was pretty good. I also like that there are side quests. If it was not difficult enough, we would have focused more on the side quests at the end, but 49 seconds was not enough time. So the difficulty can adapt to your group. It's actually quite a well done room.
Most escape rooms are about looking around for objects or written clues and then piecing them together like a logic puzzle. It is rare in my experience that real life skills come into play. For one puzzle in this room, they sure did! We could have done it without a skilled player, but it would have taken a lot longer. There was also another puzzle that used more than strict logic that I enjoyed.
Having done so many escape rooms, I would not say this is a great escape room that went beyond what I expected. It was above average and it was good and you can't argue with the price. Chelsea does a great job of being your host/guide. She's nice, she explains things, she is really clear and she helps you stay in character while offering hints.
I have done the Mad Scientist room here as well and I found it was also pretty good. That is a much more linear and more strictly logic puzzles, but there are a few opportunities to be smart to save time. If you have not done an escape room, I would recommend that one because it will introduce you to the basics of escape rooms.
These rooms are only an hour, so you don't get into it as much as the 90 minute rooms I've done. The first room I did with too few people, but it was fairly linear (mad scientist.) We did not finish in time, but we came to an agreement so we could finish anyway. Some of the puzzles dabble in the concept of a quick way to do it if you're clever or a long way to do it if you aren't. With so little time, it's too risky to put puzzles where people have to feel like McGuiver. I think this is a failing of most escape rooms, but more so with the 60 minutes format. I feel like they did a for sure above average job of that here, but I hope they will continue to develop the non-linear, multiple-approach elements of their rooms. I felt like Kingmaker did an above average job and having multiple people working a room at the same time. Also, I really liked holding one of the artifacts (no spoiler.)
For the price/fun, this is probably the best escape room I have been to. I could see this being the best room, period, if they are willing to take some risks and keep thinking outside the box. I hope this will develop more over time and am looking forward to doing the bomb room...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOur immediate family of 8 did the science escape room. 2 Adults, 3 teenagers, 1 tween, a 10 year old, and an 8 year old. It was by far the best escape room any of us have ever attended. We were impressed with all of the props, colors, lighting, tools, different combinations, puzzles, and most spectacularly the science experiments! We can't wait to go back to do the Christmas Room. This science room was incredible. I don't want to spoil it for you, but believe me, the special effects were fantastic. I also enjoyed how the room stuck to the science theme and was educational as well. When I complemented John on the props after we escaped he told us that he built many of them himself! He loves his job and is always looking for ways to improve the experience -- which shows in his work. The room kept all of us engaged, and working together. While there was a countdown going on the monitor, I really didn't look at it often because we were so into solving the puzzles and performing science experiments.
On another note, we had invited our grandparents to join us for this escape room but they declined because they didn't want to be locked into a room for an hour. Before we started, John explained that we could always leave through the door we entered, but that our goal was to escape through the "back door" of the room. Our ten-year-old left to use the bathroom and then came right back. That was a nice touch for our family. After seeing the photos of the place, and hearing about the experiments we participated in, and learning that they were not actually "locked in" the grandparents wished they would have joined us. My teenagers are already planning on when they can go back with their friends and my younger kids want to bring their cousins. I only wish that the place was bigger and had more rooms so I could come back more frequently and try more themes. The owners really did an...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe did the mad scientist as a group of 3 with 25min left and 0 hints. Their room/puzzle design is definitely one of the smoothest one in the valley. Puzzles are also very family friendly. We havenāt done escape rooms in awhile now but nothing felt out of place or the solution is forced.
Here are some ādone rightsā all puzzles do feel like they fit the theme all puzzles are pretty beginner friendly, and some of them probably can make your kids go āwowā puzzles are non-linear so you can split up and work on different things sometimes you donāt really need to spend too much time one particular one, the difficulties are pretty even across all they do have a decent variety of different types of puzzles
A small advice Iād give to the owner, if the owner would ever see is that, itās just a personal pet peeve, but if you do have any puzzles involving āColorā as key components, make sure to maintain your gear, or have some way to identify them other than color itself. Iām color blind, but shades normally works, however, there were plenty rooms weāve done that the color has peeled or faded from the gear even non-color blind people have a hard time to identify (like someone needs to identify yellow vs gold in a dark room which is ridiculous).
There was only one small thing about a particular puzzle could be improved but we have seen the same āissueā with at least 3 other rooms so not a deal breaker.
Overall I think anyone bringing their family/friend to try out escape rooms and might be intimidated before would have...
