One of my favorite hobbies is shopping around. For example, I don't go to just one grocery store, I shop across several. And this is what I did when recreational cannabis was introduced to Michigan. I enjoyed going to all of the different dispensaries, seeing their product offerings, understanding the niche they serve in the marketplace, and experience their approach to service.
Then I visited Winewood Organics.
Now I only have eyes for Winewood. I have to drive past several dispensaries to get there and ignore all of the promotions for impossibly inexpensive products. What I have learned over time is that you get what you pay for.
I may have to drive longer and pay more, but I have been delighted with almost everything at Winewood. I am also deeply grateful that Winewood is here in our community, because in my mind they are a shining example of what a dispensary should be.
Everything is made in house. The plants are grown on site. The staff are super friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. And everyone there cares deeply about what they do.
I am very much a lightweight so I have yet to try their concentrates, but I follow the crew on Facebook and I have watched videos of their production. They look amazing.
Some of my favorite strains they grow are Orange Push Pop, Lime Cake, and MAC 1. The only strain I've had so far I didn't care for was Oreoz, but that is simply personal preference and taste. I also love that they offer landrace strains, as that's just super cool.
The full spectrum Guava Gelato gummies are dynamite. Plus the tin they come in makes the product much easier to enjoy than some of the other options on the market. I'm also a big fan of their 1:1 THC/CBD tincture which is super easy to control the dosage. That tincture is super concentrated, so it's only a small vial, but a little goes a long way.
On my most recent visit I finally was brave enough to try what looked like a very scary "dart" filled with full spectrum cannabis oil. Egads! That is marvelous stuff. In fact, it may now be my favorite thing in the shop. However, that may also be the novelty of it all.
And that's not all. There's more. But I'm going to stop. You should go. But go with an open mind, because Winewood is small and they do not stock everything. However, the crew will help you find something amazing that you will not be able to find anyplace else.
Thank you Winewood for all...
Read moreWinewood is pretty much exclusively where I shop nowadays (other than when I'm too embarrassed to return after going through concentrate too quickly). At the start of this academic year, I was going for every bulk concentrate deal I could find, privileging quantity over quality. 5g/$100 of shatter was fine by me, all about volume!
When Winewood opened, I took advantage of their first time customer deal, and bought an eighth of Lemon Slushee Sugar, thinking "Oh! Fancy weed for once! And it's cheap!" That eighth lasted me double how long ten grams of the previous shatter would have, and it was just delightful. Easy to manipulate, floral and citrus notes through the roof, and a vibrant, focused feeling.
I was initially hesitant to return. It felt like a trap (recreational, despite very reasonable prices)! I can get my medical deals with no tax, stack jars in my fridge, and be relatively pleased. Once I started frequenting Winewood, though, I completely flipped how I thought about buying concentrate. Suddenly quality was accessible at a relatively accessible price, which meant bottom-shelf shatter simply didn't make sense. Winewood is fantastic!
First of all, the entire staff is knowledgeable about their products, the optimal ways to use them, and alternatives that might be interesting. I find it quite rare to find a group of people in a dispensary (crude term for Winewood) that know their stuff, from terpene profiles to ideal dabbing temperatures.
Next, they all seem invested in many parts of the business, from the grows to the extractions to the retail side of things. No one is unable to answer a question about a part of the process, and they're always willing to talk about what goes on in the rest of the facility that the public can't access. It's fun to see people in this industry invested in a process, rather than merely driving for a money grab!
Finally, the product is just wild. I visit there constantly, and imagine I must be a somewhat disproportionate amount of their business (which is fun, if bad for my wallet!), but the stuff just keeps bringing me back. Today, I finally bit the bullet and tried their solventless hash rosin for the first time, and it was exceptional, to the extent that I called them to rant about it and also wrote this review.
Go! Buy good things from good people! Tell them...
Read moreI recently retired and decided after a 30-year hiatus, it was time to explore the now legal cannibus. I knew it was purported to be much stronger with a greater variety of types and highs. I went to Winewood as they are in my neighborhood. I was delighted with the cleanliness and decor, the patient and courteous clerk, and the product. They had their 12 plus varieties of weed on display from most stimulating to most sedating with a good variety of blends of those two attributes. A plus is all product is grown on site and organic. These folks used to just supply weed to caregivers and recently branched out to retail.
Given my lack of experience I purchased two pre-rolled joints of Sundae Driver (a 50/50 blend of setiva and indica). I found that one hit provided a nice buzz for 60 to 90 minutes with mild to moderate munchies. I got a 25% discount as a first time buyer. The clerk was very honest about what was available on sale. The joint was solid buds and burned slowly.
They also gave me a freebie gram sample of their most setiva type. I tried it the next day and was struck by how different the high was. No munchies, no fatigue, just a sort of silly and happy mood.
Finally the packaging is awesome. The pre-rolls came in a glass jar with a wooden lid and had filters. When I have called with questions store folk have picked up promptly and answered my questions. I will most definitely return! UPDATE: Still love this shop. Now that I've had a chance to use a carpet of different flower, I can also endorse the bubble hash. There are 2 varieties a skunks indica one and a fruity sativa one. A little sprinkled on flower enhances the buzz. Also, I am loving a new variety, Runtz. Strong and 50/50 saliva and indica....
