We had dinner at bb.q Chicken in Ann Arbor last night, and wowâwhat a surprise! I didnât know quite what to expect, as Iâd never had Korean fried chicken before. My only previous experience with Korean cuisine was beef bulgogi and kimchi, so this was totally new territory.
I assumed it would be a quick-serve spot, so I was pleasantly surprised when we were warmly greeted and seated at a table. While the space still carries the casual vibe of a fast-casual restaurant, being served at the table was a nice touch. The atmosphere was clean, inviting, and full of energy. Friendly staff, prompt service, and even TVs playing K-pop added an authentic and fun Korean flair.
My husband and daughter ordered wings, and I opted for the chicken fried rice bowl. We also shared dumplings and sweet potato friesâboth delicious. I was tempted to try the wings then and there, but I was saving my calories for a milkshake from next door. (Priorities!)
But I couldnât stop thinking about those wings⊠So today, I went back and picked up a small order of the honey wings for myself. Let me tell you: I come from a family of pizza and wing restaurant owners in Arizona and Florida, and I never thought I could love any wings more than my brotherâs Buffalo-style creations. But these? These are in a league of their own.
The batter was incredibly light and crispy, the chicken moist and flavorful, and the wings themselves were impressively plump and meaty. Totally different from what Iâm used toâbut just as crave-worthy.
Final verdict? If youâve never tried Korean fried chicken, this is the place to start. Delicious food, great service, and a fun atmosphere. Weâll...
Read moreSo I checked out bb.q Chicken Ann Arbor, and it was pretty solid. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed, perfect for a quick bite or a meetup with friends. The staff was friendly and attentive, which is always a plus. They had a pretty cool setup too, with a bunch of tables.
Now, about the foodâIâm obsessed with spicy fried chicken, and bb.q Chicken Ann Arbor totally hit the spot! Their spicy fried chicken was crispy on the outside and a bit juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of heat. I was so satisfied! And the best part? It came with a side of pickled radish that was absolutely delicious. The tangy, slightly sweet flavor of the radish paired perfectly with the spicy chicken.
But what really took it to the next level was the strawberry lychee drink I ordered on the side. It was so refreshing and sweet, and it helped cool down the heat from the spicy chicken. I was a little skeptical about the combo at first, but trust me, it's a game-changer. Overall, I'd say bb.q Chicken Ann Arbor is a great spot for some tasty, no-fuss food. If you're in the area and craving some good BBQ chicken, I'd definitely recommend...
Read moreMost importantly, the chicken is really good. Welcome addition to the local food scene. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The biggest down side is the incredible wait. They don't open until 4:30 for dinner and by 5PM, the wait for an order was an hour. By 6PM it was 90 minutes. I was fortunate to put in an online order in time to pick up just after 6 (which was 15 minutes late). The only online ordering options use Door Dash and Caviar, even for a pickup order, and the staff was very candid about the fact that the wait times quoted by Door Dash are pure fiction. They recommended calling in a take-out order, which pretty much defeats the purpose of online ordering for both the customer and the restaurant staff. When I picked up my order, the posted wait was 90 minutes and walk-in customers were turning around and leaving, astonished at that kind of wait for take-out fried chicken. I looked at my phone and Door Dash was claiming a 22 minute wait, which was impossible. Bottom line is that the food is worth going back for but you need to know how bad the system is for getting you an order and account...
